We are seeking a seasoned Procurement Manager with deep expertise in the telecommunications sector for a consultancy engagement to support our infrastructure projects across Australia. In this senior advisory role, you will drive strategic procurement efforts, including negotiating competitive rates with service providers and suppliers, crafting comprehensive commercial models, and achieving cost-effective pricing for critical materials such as steelwork, feeder cables, and associated equipment. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify risks, unlock efficiencies, and align procurement strategies with project objectives in a dynamic, fast-paced setting.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead high-level negotiations with service providers and suppliers to obtain enhanced rates, terms, and conditions, targeting materials essential to telecommunications infrastructure like steelwork, feeder cables, and related components.
• Design and optimise commercial models, integrating cost benchmarking, risk assessments, and value-for-money evaluations to boost project profitability and operational effectiveness.
• Develop and deploy procurement strategies, encompassing the creation and oversight of Requests for Pricing (RFPs), tender assessments, and supplier selections, ensuring adherence to organisational policies and governance standards.
• Cultivate and manage key supplier and subcontractor relationships, including performance evaluations, order expediting, and resolution of quality, compliance, or delivery challenges.
• Work alongside project managers, commercial teams, and stakeholders to pinpoint procurement risks and opportunities, offering data-driven insights and reports on metrics such as cost savings, supplier performance, and timelines.
• Guide the complete procurement lifecycle from needs assessment to contract finalisation and transition, guaranteeing on-time delivery of quality materials and services in compliance with safety and regulatory norms for infrastructure projects.
• Promote process enhancements, including the adoption of procurement technologies, improved supply chain transparency, and sustainable sourcing practices.
• Oversee procurement-related administration, including invoice reconciliation, record maintenance, and efficient handling of internal requests.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
• Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related discipline (or equivalent professional experience).
• 10+ years of progressive experience in procurement or supply chain roles, with a demonstrated history in the telecommunications industry.
• Proven expertise in managing intricate procurement activities within project-oriented environments, such as infrastructure, utilities, or construction, with specific focus on telecommunications networks.
• Established success in contract negotiations and commercial modelling within high-stakes, safety-focused sectors.
Key Skills and Attributes
• Superior commercial acumen, featuring exceptional negotiation, influencing, and stakeholder management abilities to yield top-tier results.
• Expertise in procurement systems and tools (e.g., SAP, advanced Excel for analytics and reporting).
• Exceptional organisational prowess, with a track record of juggling multiple priorities in high-pressure, time-sensitive environments.
• Strategic problem-solving, meticulous attention to detail, and a data-centric decision-making style.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for seamless collaboration with internal teams, suppliers, and partners.
• Solid understanding of Australian procurement regulations, industry benchmarks, and ethical/sustainable sourcing practices.
• Capacity to function independently while fostering team collaboration in an inclusive setting.
