Mater Hospital Springfield is seeking applications for General Surgery Principal House Officers to join us in a maximum term, full time role for 12 months in 2026. Based at our Springfield campus, these roles will be part of a landmark moment in Queensland healthcare at Mater Hospital Springfield — opening early 2026. As Mater's newest public hospital, this state of the art facility will meet the needs of the growing Greater Springfield region. With 174 public beds, ICU, maternity, emergency, and surgical services, it is set to care for over 200,000 patients annually.
Surgical PHOs are expected to provide care for General Surgery and associated specialty patients at Mater Hospital Springfield and potentially Mater Hospital Brisbane. The successful applicant should be competent at history taking, physical examination, ordering and interpreting appropriate investigations, implementing management plans and conducting minor surgical procedures with consultant supervision. You should be aware of quality and safety practices relevant to a Surgical Department.
About you
* General medical registration with AHPRA, or at least 12 months of practice in Australia or a region of Competent Authority as determined by AHPRA
* At least 2 years postgraduate experience (ideally 3)
* Experience within a surgical department in an acute hospital setting.
