Our menu features over 80 varieties of dishes, including our signature Dim Sum, handmade noodles, stir-fried beef, fresh seafood, soups, and classic desserts.

Our Team & Structure
To maintain the quality and consistency of our extensive menu, Dumpling Bar operates with a well-structured kitchen team led by experienced chefs and cooks specialising in traditional Chinese culinary techniques. Given the diversity of our menu and the steady demand from both dine-in and takeaway customers, the Cook position plays a critical role in daily operations — from preparing sauces and fillings to managing wok and dim sum stations.
As our business continues to grow, we are seeking a qualified and experienced Cook who can contribute to our kitchen team, uphold our food standards, and mentor junior staff in authentic Chinese cooking methods. This position is essential to ensure smooth kitchen operations and the continued success of our restaurant.
About the Position
We are currently seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic full-time Cook to join our team at Dumpling Bar, Coffs Harbour, NSW. The ideal candidate will share our passion for authentic Chinese cuisine and thrive in a dynamic kitchen environment.
The successful applicant will be responsible for preparing and cooking a wide range of Chinese dishes — including dim sum, noodles, soups, and stir-fried specialties — while ensuring each dish meets our high standards for taste, presentation, and freshness.

Tasks and Responsibilities
Preparation
* Adjust cooking appliance settings to ensure optimal cooking conditions.
* Instruct kitchen hands on proper preparation techniques, ensuring adherence to hygiene and safety regulations to maintain a clean and safe kitchen environment.
* Measure and mix ingredients accurately according to standard recipes, ensuring consistency in food quality.
* Estimate and prepare the necessary ingredients and supplies for daily menu items, coordinating timely procurement to minimise waste.
Cooking Process
* Prepare and cook a wide variety of dishes in accordance with customer orders and restaurant recipes.
* Portion and plate food attractively, adding sauces, gravies, and garnishes to enhance presentation.
* Season and adjust dishes during the cooking process to achieve authentic flavour and high-quality taste.
* Prepare meals catering to special dietary requirements, such as vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and allergy-sensitive options.
* Monitor and control cooking times and temperatures to ensure all food is cooked safely and thoroughly.
Collaboration with Other Staff
* Train and mentor kitchen staff, providing guidance on cooking techniques, kitchen safety, and efficient workflow.
* Assist the chef in menu planning, considering seasonal ingredients, customer preferences, and cost control.
* Collaborate closely with front-of-house staff to ensure customer orders are accurately prepared and delivered promptly.
* Participate in kitchen meetings and contribute ideas for new menu items or improvements to existing recipes.
Food Safety
* Inspect ingredients and food supplies to ensure quality, freshness, and correct labelling.
* Store food in temperature-regulated environments and follow proper handling procedures to prevent contamination.
* Maintain high standards of food hygiene and comply with all relevant health and safety regulations.
Additional Responsibilities
* Ensure kitchen equipment is properly maintained and report any faults or maintenance issues promptly.
* Adhere to all workplace health and safety policies, including wearing appropriate protective gear and maintaining a clean workspace.
* Keep up to date with industry trends, modern cooking techniques, and menu innovations to continuously enhance culinary skills.
Qualifications, education, experience and abilities required:

* Minimum of a Cert IV qualification or equivalent in substantial experience.
Experience requirements
* At least 2 years of kitchen experience in highly relevant role required.
* Must have experience in Chinese cuisine (especially in Shanghainese aesthetic)

* Excellent knowledge of all kitchen procedures and assist with all facets of kitchen operation

Hours:
The employee's ordinary hours of work are 38 hours each week as per weekly schedule, including allowed meal and refreshment breaks.
