About the role:
ACU is seeking appropriately qualified casual Maths for University teachers. Teaching responsibilities include delivering classes aligned with unit outlines, setting clear learning goals, supporting student learning through varied teaching approaches, and helping students understand assessment requirements, deadlines, and marking criteria. The role involves marking assessments, providing feedback, participating in moderation and unit meetings across campuses, and monitoring student attendance and progress, with concerns reported to program leadership. The position requires a recognised Mathematics degree with a teaching qualification, at least two years' teaching experience, strong knowledge of contemporary Mathematics education, effective organisational and communication skills, the ability to work collaboratively in a teaching team.
Responsibilities:
* Deliver class sessions in accordance with the unit outline, setting clear learning goals, scaffolding student learning and providing a range of learning activities and modes.
* Facilitate student understanding of assessment tasks, submission deadlines, and marking rubrics.
* Mark assessments and provide feedback as per unit guidelines.
* Participate in, and contribute to, unit meetings and consensus moderation for all assessment tasks within and across campuses.
* Monitor and record student attendance and progress and report any concerns to the unit coordinator or Program Manager (Operations).
You will need to have:
* A recognised degree with a major in Mathematics or equivalent and a teacher education qualification which includes Mathematics teaching method. At least two years' experience teaching Mathematics in a university or senior high school setting.
* Knowledge of current developments in Mathematics learning and teaching theory and practice, including a broad familiarity with the use of technology and e-learning applications in Mathematics teaching.
* Excellent organisational and record-keeping skills, including a demonstrated ability to meet course-related deadlines.
* Ability to deliver Mathematics courses and achieve results and to engage with, and communicate effectively with, students from a range of cultural and educational backgrounds.
* Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a member of a teaching team and to contribute to the development of learning resources and assessment tasks and to participate in the moderation of assessment tasks that are used to provide evidence of the attainment in Mathematics to university entrance standards.
