Overview

Full time and Part-time continuing (tenure-track) academic Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor (Education Focused) positions at The University of Sydney.

Opportunity for the best and brightest educators to be part of our future at the Faculty of Science. Base Salary Level C/D $156,103 p.a. – $207,069 p.a. (pro-rata for part time appointments) + 17% superannuation. Join the Horizon Educators cohort, with access to apply for Education Focused specialist grants up to AUD$30K to support education-related activities, primarily in scholarship of teaching and learning and improving current educational offerings at the University of Sydney.

About the opportunity

The University welcomes applications for Education Focused Academics (Sydney Horizon Educators) in the academic disciplines outlined below, during an exciting and innovative time. With the new University of Sydney Enterprise Agreement, the University has committed to establishing and advertising new continuing education-focused (EF) academic positions across the Faculty of Science. Successful candidates will join the Sydney Horizon Educators cohort. A video is available for reference.

These roles aim to attract and retain the best emerging academics in a specialised education-focused category. Positions are for talented educators with passion for and demonstrated excellence in educational practice, innovation, and research capability. The group will support uplift in teaching capability and student experience and develop as leaders in education. You will contribute to teaching, learning design, delivery, and evaluation in your field while contributing to research related to your discipline or educational practice, and to governance, leadership, and engagement in your school.

Over time, staff will be supported to engage with career development to lead change and improvement in teaching and research.

Contribution split: teaching and teaching-related activities 70%; research 20%; governance, leadership, and engagement 10%. You will teach undergraduate and postgraduate coursework Units of Study; laboratory/tutorial/studio class deliveries and workshop management may be part of the role. You may assist and guide academic coordinators of other units within the discipline.

Your key responsibilities include:

- lead educational innovation, curriculum design and review to deliver outstanding educational outcomes
- design and deliver high-quality teaching and learning experiences meeting the University’s standards
- deliver outstanding teaching and learning outcomes for students
- develop teaching and unit materials with senior academics
- maintain Work, Health and Safety requirements for laboratory and/or field work
- conduct research and scholarly work related to teaching and learning in your discipline
- develop and refine education research skills to evaluate and improve teaching and learning
- maintain high quality standards in educational activities and output
- contribute to governance, leadership, and engagement in your school

Disciplines and appointments

The University is seeking applications for:

- Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor in Small Ruminant Health and Production (Education Focused) Level C/D

Sydney School of Veterinary Science seeks a Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor (Education-focused) in Small Ruminant Health and Production to be based at the Camden campus.

Qualifications include veterinary background and a PhD in Animal or Veterinary Science with industry connections; leadership in curriculum development and accreditation readiness; a record in teaching and research relevant to the discipline or the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning.

- Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor in Animal Physiology and Industries (Education Focused) Level C/D

School of Life and Environmental Sciences (SOLES) seeks a Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor in Animal Physiology based at Camperdown or Camden Campus. Requires PhD in relevant field; strong teaching track record; capacity to coordinate large units; engagement with industry networks; and research in animal physiology or SoTL.

About you

We are looking for education-focused candidates who understand curriculum and assessment design and who will contribute to the student experience and research in teaching and learning. You will have demonstrated ability to interact with students and to conduct education-related research; you should be prepared to develop an education research program over time. Education Focused Academics should have a developing network of relationships, supervising or coordinating experience, and commitment to undergraduate teaching. Ability to contribute across undergraduate, honours, and postgraduate levels in multiple settings is preferred, with a record of designing, implementing and evaluating teaching and learning initiatives and evidence of high-quality teaching practice in a tertiary environment.

Senior Lecturer and Associate Professor candidates should also demonstrate leadership, governance, and engagement capabilities, and the ability to attract funding and lead curriculum development that enhances student learning.
