Sense Of Self (S.O.S)
Designer
Posted: 1 September
Offer description

Launched in 2020 and featured in Vogue, The Design Files and The AFR, Sense Of Self (SOS) is a contemporary bathhouse and spa with beautiful design, a big mission, and world-class customer service at its core. We exist to be a local watering hole for our guests, our team, and our community — a place where everybody is welcome to connect, restore, and experience belonging.

We live and die by our values: bringing a new standard to wellness, promoting belonging, agency, and never selling BS. SOS is a truly rewarding brand to work for — we practice what we preach, centring care, connection, and authenticity in everything we do.

Role Summary

The Brand Designer role offers a unique opportunity to shape and evolve the visual identity of a refreshing, values-driven brand. From packaging and print to digital, social, product and spatial design, you'll be the custodian of our design system and ensure SOS is expressed consistently, creatively, and with customer relevance at its core.

This is a generalist design and brand role suited to a dynamic, high-performing team. While your primary craft is design, you'll also contribute to brand strategy, product development, marketing campaigns, brand growth, and new market entry — flexing across tasks to support our small but mighty team. You'll work directly with the Founder and Marketing Coordinator to deliver creative and strategic outputs that strengthen customer trust, grow the brand into new areas and audiences, and uphold a culture of excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Founder and working closely with the Marketing Coordinator and wider HQ team, the Brand Designer is responsible for:

Brand Guardianship

* Uphold and evolve the SOS visual identity across all touchpoints (digital, print, packaging, signage, product, environmental/spatial).
* Ensure all brand assets reflect our values and customer-first ethos.
* Develop and maintain a brand toolkit and asset library for internal and external use.

Creative Production

* Design assets for everything we do, from campaigns to social media, packaging, menus, wayfinding, and printed collateral.
* Prepare production-ready files and liaise with printers and production partners.
* Create templates and systems to support the wider team's efficient brand execution.

Marketing & Brand Growth

* Collaborate with the Founder and Marketing Coordinator on integrated campaigns across digital and physical channels including website, email, outdoor, print and social media.
* Contribute to the broader marketing strategy and collaborate on design-led outputs such as video, animation and photography, ensuring creative alignment with the brand story.
* Provide design support for new product, services and market launches.

Customer-Centric Design & UX

* Apply UX and customer journey thinking to design outputs, ensuring every touchpoint feels intentional, intuitive, and aligned to SOS's ethos.
* Use customer insights and feedback to inform design decisions.
* Work with externals to ensure correct application of design and brand language.

Collaboration & Support

* Work hand-in-hand with our HQ team to adapt to shifting needs and priorities.
* Provide coverage and support for marketing functions when necessary, as relevant to skills and experience.
* Manage relationships with freelancers, producers and creative partners.

Skills & Experience

To be successful in this role, the right candidate has the following mix of skills and experience:

1. Experience: You have 2+ years experience in a similar role for a brand-led consumer-facing company, working on the tools and contributing to strategy. You know your stuff and have the experience to back it up, but you have room to grow.
2. Specific experience: You have proven experience with packaging and print production, 2–4 years design experience (in-house or agency), strong proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign), plus Figma or equivalent and you have a grasp on UX and customer-centric design principles.
3. Master Brand Communicator: You have a knack for embodying a brand's personality and are obsessed with embedding it at every opportunity, and you have a very strong grasp of typography, layout, and visual systems. You don't need to be told that communication is the backbone of a successful team.
4. Proficient in, or have an understanding of: marketing tools including but not limited to Shopify Plus, Google Analytics, Klaviyo, Canva, CMS platforms (custom and off-the-shelf), Typeform, Later and major ad platforms.
5. Innovator: You are brave, you back the wild and wacky, and you are discerning. You are not afraid to bring your ideas to the table - we value creative thinking and are always open to something out of the ordinary.
6. Executor: As the custodian of our brand you are never slap-dash, but you know how to GSD without compromising quality, and you always go above and beyond.
7. Accountable: You take responsibility for your actions, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and fostering trust within the team by doing so.
8. Driven: You proactively seek improvement opportunities, driving progress for the company and don't shy away from a tight deadline, a lofty goal, or working independently.
9. Connector: You nourish and support industry connections, bringing a range of creative and like-minded collaborators with you wherever you go.
10. Committed: This isn't a role for a year or two, we invest in our people and want our people to invest in us. A part of this is being comfortable in a small, dynamic, high-performing team where roles are generalist, collaborative, and hands-on.
11. Consistent: You bring steady, positive energy to the team—showing up with warmth, openness, and a can-do attitude that helps create a supportive, high-trust environment.
12. Passion For Care: Maintaining high standards of care involves consistently delivering exceptional service and initiatives that exceed expectations, which you are motivated to meet for the Sense Of Self guests and team alike.
* Highly Regarded: motion graphics, animation, photography, video editing, illustration, social media content design, copywriting, 3D design and AI tool proficiency.

What we offer

* Alongside a true commitment to employee wellbeing, we offer staff unlimited, off-peak access to the bathhouse, a full pantry, and a beautiful space to work from
* Opportunity to be part of a supportive, high-performing team with a culture of excellence.
* A hands-on role in growing a brand that's redefining wellness in Australia and beyond.

Key Terms

* Part-time, 3 days per week (0.6 FTE) with the view to becoming full-time in the next 12 months
* Australian Permanent Resident or long-term visa holder
