Where you'll be working

Population and Community Health (PaCH) is part of South Eastern Sydney Local Health District.

PaCH provides community health services that give care to individuals, families and carers, as well as population health services that focus on the whole community or key groups within the community.

PaCH's services are provided at the District's hospitals, community-based facilities including child and family health centres, community health centres and specialist clinics. We work with other service providers across South Eastern Sydney Local Health District, including hospitals and mental health services.

The Role SESLHD's Sexual Health and Blood Borne Virus Services (SHBBV) provides leadership, innovation and research in the sector. Services within SHBBV are involved in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of Sexually Transmissible Infections (STIs) and blood borne viruses at an individual and population level within SESLHD, as well as four statewide services.

Across these services, care is provided via fixed locations and outreach networks to a client base of approximately 28,000 individuals. SHBBV has highly skilled and diverse staff including nursing, medical, allied health, health promotion, administrative and technical staff. It is the largest SHBBV service in Australia.

The role is primarily based at the Sydney Sexual Health Centre (SSHC). SSHC is one of three facilities within the Sexual Health clinical services which also includes The Short Street Centre and The Albion Centre. A key focus of the position is to provide a diverse range of specialist services including sexual health assessment, STI screening and treatment, client and community education and health promotion, in-patient triage, telephone services and other duties as directed by the NUM. The nursing unit are actively involved in research and quality activities and participate in a weekly education program as well as external education opportunities.

The role will work in collaboration with local interdisciplinary teams to ensure a streamlined approach to client centered delivery of care across the three Sexual Health facilities. Cross facility support and travel may be required where necessary.

Selection Criteria

1. Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia.
2. Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication, interpersonal skills and the ability to identify key messages, issues and concerns when communicating with others.
3. Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and apply professional and ethical boundaries when dealing with complex situations.
4. Demonstrates good quality documentation skills and computer literacy and the ability to work with EMR systems, electronic booking systems and online results management.
5. A good understanding of the issues and needs of priority populations attending sexual health services.
6. Demonstrated clinical experience working in the sexual health or related field or demonstrated interest in working in the sexual health sector.
7. Demonstrated ability to work within a fast-paced environment whilst ensuring safe, effective and high-quality care.
8. Current drivers licence (or a willingness to travel in accordance with the demands of the position).
