Western Sydney University is a modern, world-class institution located in the heart of Australia's fastest growing and most economically significant region. With nearly 50,000 students, approximately 3,500 staff, and a network of campuses across Greater Western Sydney, Vietnam, and Indonesia, we are proud to be ranked among the top two per cent of universities globally.

This is your opportunity to be part of something bigger. By joining Western Sydney University, you become a valued member of our community. As our region changes, so too does our university. Western is boldly different, energetic, global, diverse, dynamic, and youthful.

Our mission is to deliver student success, impactful research, and stronger communities. As part of our team, you will have a stake in shaping the future of education, broadening horizons, and changing lives. Making a difference starts at Western.

The Opportunity

Join an ambitious, nationally significant research initiative and help protect Australia's unique invertebrate biodiversity. As an Associate Lecturer in Snail Conservation, you will be a key contributor to a newly funded ARC Linkage Project, "Snails to the rescue Conservation of Australia's island invertebrates."

This is a research-intensive role (100% research) where you will work alongside a collaborative, multidisciplinary team within the School of Science and across the University, building strong partnerships with conservation practitioners and external stakeholders. Your work will have direct, real-world impact on conservation outcomes for Australia's threatened invertebrate species.

In this role, you will:

* Design and implement innovative snail conservation and recovery programs
* Conduct high-impact research in zoology, conservation biology and related fields
* Apply quantitative ecological methods and spatial analytics to inform conservation decisions
* Build and maintain strong partnerships with conservation organisations, Indigenous groups, not-for-profits and government agencies
* Supervise and mentor students and research assistants
* Contribute to research publications, seminars and outreach activities
* Actively participate in school and university life, including events, meetings and professional development

About You

* A relevant tertiary degree (or equivalent) in conservation biology, evolutionary ecology, zoology or a related discipline
* Experience in designing and delivering wildlife or invertebrate conservation programs
* Skills in quantitative ecological analysis and/or spatial analytics
* A strong track record in developing and managing partnerships with conservation practitioners beyond academia
* Experience progressing research from concept to peer-reviewed publication
* Experience supervising field staff and/or students
* Demonstrated success in research grant writing or contribution to funded projects
* Excellent communication skills and a collaborative, team-focused approach

Why Join Us?

This is a rare opportunity to be part of a flagship, applied conservation project that will shape the future of invertebrate biodiversity protection in Australia. You'll work in a supportive, research-driven environment, with the chance to build long-term impact through collaboration, mentorship and cutting-edge science.
