Job Title: Aboriginal Cultural Mentor and Support Officer
This is a critical role in assisting staff, children, and families to improve the stability and cultural connection of the young people in our care.
Key Responsibilities:
* Directly support staff, children, and families to enhance the stability and cultural connection of the young people.
* Collaborate with families, children, staff, and carers to develop a tailored cultural plan that meets the needs of each individual.
* Facilitate identifying and locating extended family connections and reengagement with extended families and kin.
* Engage with Aboriginal communities and provide mentoring support for children and young people to connect to family, culture, and community.
* Support staff, families, and children to identify their communities of origin, connection to country, and mob.
* Assess the needs of families and children for specialized flexible support with a focus on the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children.
* Enhance the practical application of care for children in the context of their cultural background.
* Maintain open communication with staff, carers, and families about events, programs, and activities available within their local Aboriginal communities.
Requirements:
* Current Working with Children Check (paid employment)
* Current First Aid Certificate (Provide First Aid; HLTAID011)
* National Police Check
* A current driver's license
* Vehicle capable of transporting 4 or more people
* Comprehensive Car Insurance
* Ability to follow protocol and individualized programs designed for the young person
* Willingness to participate in pre-employment medical checks
* Two work-related references
* Recognition by local Indigenous groups
* Working knowledge of youth work
* Extensive experience in Microsoft Office Applications
* Knowledge of Needs-Based Restorative Framework concepts and strategies
