Join to apply for the Business Administration Trainee role at Maitland City Council via the Pathways program.

Location: Maitland, Current South Wales • Contract • Full-time

About The Opportunity

Maitland City Council's Pathways program is a fantastic way to kick-start your career and gain professional experience in local government. Commencing in January 2026, for a period of one year, our Business Administration Trainees will undertake general administration tasks across Council, whilst simultaneously gaining tertiary qualifications in Business Administration.

You also have the opportunity to jumpstart your career path by undertaking a traineeship in one of the below focus areas:

- Environment
- Business Support
- Customer Experience

This traineeship provides an opportunity to gain practical on-the-job experience, while also obtaining tertiary qualifications through a Registered Training Organisation/TAFE. Maitland Council will provide opportunities to develop skills, knowledge, and experience across a range of functions across Council.

Responsibilities

- Undertake general administration tasks across Council.
- Assist with enquiries and requests from internal and external customers to build a strong foundation for a career in administration.
- Gain practical on-the-job experience while pursuing tertiary qualifications.
- Develop skills across a range of Council functions.

Qualifications

- Eligibility to complete a Certificate III Traineeship in Business Administration (please read the role charter to confirm eligibility before applying).
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work productively in a team and positively contribute to team goals.
- Proficiency in computer skills and Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word, Excel and Outlook).
- Experience in quality customer service and continuous improvement.

This role will be suitable for those who have recently completed high school, as well as candidates seeking a change of career and an opportunity to gain administration experience in local government.

Benefits

- Full-time, temporary 12-month role working a 35-hour week.
- Salary range: $20,732.40 up to $42,104.40 per year + 12% super, commencing salary dependent on age and/or previous education.
- Council covers the cost of all TAFE/RTO fees and provides access to staff benefits such as flexible working arrangements and a fitness passport.
