This is an Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander identified position which is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised under section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.

The Aboriginal Legal Service (ALS) was established in a critical act of self-determination over 50 years ago as part of the Aboriginal rights protest movement. We provide high-quality, culturally safe legal and support services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people throughout NSW and the ACT, and fight for social justice and equity for our communities.

Your Impact:
In this role, you will provide culturally safe support and connect mob with legal help, working closely with solicitors and communities to ensure fair access to justice. Your work will strengthen relationships and empower Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients on their legal journey. Each day, you will:

- Walking alongside mob, offering culturally safe support, referrals, and legal information.
- Working with our solicitor and clients, helping with files, staying in touch, and making sure clients get the support they need.
- Getting out into the community for a yarn, share information, and deliver legal education in ways that work for mob.
- Building strong connections with clients, local organisations, and community groups to help our people get fair access to justice.
- Keeping your work high-quality and respectful, following ALS values, staying organised, and keeping good records.
- Travelling across Country to support clients, visit communities, and represent the ALS at courts, meetings, and events.
- Having experience running community legal education sessions and previously worked in an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community-controlled organisation is desirable.

Your Story & Strengths:
With respect and pride, you’ll walk alongside community, with a deep understanding of cultural, social, and historical needs. You’re committed to standing up for justice, supporting mob with care, and helping reduce cultural load and bring these values and strengths:

- Be a proud Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, recognised by your community.
- Have a solid understanding and respect for culture, traditions, and community needs when helping clients and their families.
- Be committed to fairness and social justice, knowing the challenges our people face in the legal system.
- Know the support services and referrals available for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients and be able to help them access these.
- Be confident in writing clear and accurate reports about client work and outcomes.
- Have strong problem-solving skills, work well on your own and in a team, with strong Microsoft Suite skills.
- Be ready and able to travel for work, whether that’s local, regional, or interstate.
