The Position
Our programs provide support to people in need from a variety of sectors – justice, homelessness, mental health and education. Samaritan House is the ACT’s only crisis accommodation service for single men. Operating 24/7 and offering 13 beds, the service provides immediate safety, support and connection to longer-term housing pathways for men aged 18–65 experiencing homelessness.
We are seeking a dedicated Support Worker to join the Samaritan House team. Reporting to the Coordinator, you will work across a rotating roster, and often work as the sole employee on shift delivering frontline support to the residents and contributing to the day-to-day operation of the House.
This is a hands-on role focused on building trust with residents, responding to immediate needs, and helping maintain a safe, calm, and welcoming environment. You will play a key role in supporting dignity, independence, and positive life outcomes.

You bring experience supporting people experiencing homelessness and an understanding of both crisis response and longer-term support within a case management framework. You are confident working with people who may be living with mental illness and/or addiction and have a strong awareness of community and referral services.
You are able to work independently, apply judgement when working without supervision including the demonstrated ability to provide a hospitality service and undertake a range of administrative duties. You have well-developed communication skills along with a proactive, collaborative mindset, demonstrated resilience and you have the capacity to respond to challenging situations with professionalism and care.
A Certificate IV in Community Development/Sector or similar or a related field is highly desirable, along with relevant experience or demonstrated capability in a similar support role.
