Overview
A leading superannuation fund is seeking an experienced Manager to join its high-performing Group Tax function. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in a sophisticated in-house tax team within one of Australia's largest and most complex investment environments.
In this role you will combine technical tax expertise, stakeholder engagement and team leadership, helping to manage the organisation's tax advisory and compliance activities while supporting the ongoing development of the Group Tax function.
The Opportunity
In this role you will play a key role in supporting the organisation's tax strategy and ensuring compliance across a broad range of tax obligations. You will partner with stakeholders across finance, investments and operations, while also helping to develop and mentor members of the tax team.
This role offers exposure to a wide range of complex tax matters in a large institutional investment environment, including regulatory engagement, tax advisory work, and oversight of key compliance processes.
Key ResponsibilitiesTax Strategy & Advisory
* Contribute to the development and execution of the organisation's Group Tax strategy.
* Provide technical tax advice to internal stakeholders across the business.
* Identify opportunities to optimise tax outcomes and manage tax risk.
* Monitor legislative developments and assess their impact on the organisation.
* Support engagement with regulators including the ATO where required.
Tax Compliance
* Oversee key tax compliance obligations including income tax, GST, BAS, FBT and reporting obligations.
* Manage the preparation and review of tax provisions for financial reporting.
* Oversee distribution reviews for managed investment schemes and tax components.
* Review tax in unit pricing and ensure integrity of underlying tax data.
* Work closely with custodians and administrators to ensure accurate reporting.
Leadership & Stakeholder Management
* Support the leadership and development of Senior Associates and Associates within the Group Tax team.
* Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders across finance, investments and operations.
* Manage relationships with external tax advisors and determine when external support is required.
* Deliver tax technical training to relevant teams across the business.
* Drive initiatives to improve tax processes, systems and controls.
* Support the evolution of the organisation's tax governance framework.
* Identify opportunities to simplify processes and improve efficiency across the tax function.
About You
To succeed in this role, you will bring strong technical tax expertise along with the ability to work effectively with stakeholders across a large and complex organisation.
You will have
* 8+ years' experience in tax, gained within professional services, funds management, superannuation, banking or a related financial services environment.
* Strong technical knowledge of Australian tax legislation and tax advisory practices.
* Advanced income tax compliance and advisory experience and knowledge of Indirect Tax principles.
* Exposure to managed investment schemes, superannuation or funds management structures highly regarded.
* Experience with tax effect accounting and tax provisioning for financial reporting purposes.
* Excellent analytical, communication and stakeholder management skills.
* A relevant degree in Commerce, Law or a related discipline.
* CA, CTA or postgraduate tax qualifications highly regarded.
