About the Opportunity
A busy and high-performing supply chain automation team is looking for an experienced Data Scientist to join them on a 9-month contract. You'll be contributing to forecasting and performance analysis work that directly supports optimisation initiatives within the supply chain.
This team focuses less on traditional mathematical optimisation and more on making sense of complex systems through statistical analysis, modelling, and deep data exploration. Your work will involve identifying trends and opportunities for improvement across areas such as rail and shipping within the resources sector.
Contract rate: Up to $102.50 per hour + Super
This is a hybrid role requiring three days per week in the office. The contract offers the potential for extension or conversion to permanent, depending on how things go.
About You
We’re looking for a Data Scientist who brings:
* 5+ years of experience in data science or analytics roles
* 2–3 years of hands-on experience with Python and SQL (non-negotiable)
* Familiarity with Snowflake and Docker is a bonus, but not essential
* A solid grasp of statistics and probability, especially around forecasting models
* Prior exposure to the mining industry and supply chain operations (rail and shipping experience highly regarded)
* The ability to work through ambiguous problems and build practical models to support real business outcomes
Key Responsibilities
* Tackle forecasting challenges related to supply chain data
* Conduct detailed performance analysis to identify optimisation opportunities
* Apply statistical methods and probability to model complex systems
* Work with the team to develop predictive models based on real-world operational questions
* Report to the Principal Data Scientist and collaborate closely with the broader automation team
The Benefits
* A stable 9-month contract with the possibility of extension or transition to permanent
* A hybrid work arrangement with three days in the office
* A high-impact role in a busy and well-supported team
* The chance to work on meaningful supply chain challenges within the mining industry
