Gardening Assistant

This hands-on role supports the programmed delivery of maintenance activities for Wodonga's parks, gardens and open spaces. From turf care and garden beds to irrigation systems and street furniture, you'll help keep our outdoor environments looking great and functioning safely for the community.
* Daily operational workCarry out routine garden maintenance such as mowing, pruning, weeding, spraying and mulching across Wodonga's open space areas.
* Safe plant and equipment useOperate a range of horticultural machinery and equipment including mowers, chainsaws, blowers and spray units in a safe and efficient manner.
* Team support and flexibilityWork collaboratively across Council's broader operations teams, providing labour and support to natural resource, roads or parks crews as needed.
* Compliance and documentationContribute to a safe and organised work environment by completing documentation such as Safe Work Method Statements, Traffic Control Plans, timesheets and job records.
* Customer service and communicationRespond courteously to community service requests and maintain respectful communication with team members and other council staff.

Key Selection Criteria:
Our ideal candidate will be able to show us the following.
1. Relevant qualifications in gardening or an equivalent combination of experience, education and training
2. Demonstrated experience in gardening or mechanical maintenance
3. Proven ability to follow instructions and work according to established processes
4. Ability to provide good customer service and ensure the quality of work outputs

Prior to commencement, the successful applicant will be required to provide the following.
* A copy of a recent National Police Check (less than 3 months)
* A current driver's licence
* Any other mandatory requirements outlined in the position description (eg. first aid, CPR, WWCC, forklift).
* The completion of a pre-employment functional assessment (paid for by the council)
