The Australian Education Union - ACT Branch is seeking an Industrial Officer to join our team at an exciting time. With enterprise bargaining negotiations currently ongoing for our entire membership, this is your opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of educators across the ACT.
About This Role
This is a full-time temporary 12-month position commencing ASAP offering the chance to be at the heart of the work of our union assisting our members with workplace problems. You'll work directly with our members - teachers, school leaders, school assistants, and psychologists at public schools in the ACT, as well as educators at the Canberra Institute of Technology - helping them navigate workplace challenges and secure better conditions.

What You'll Do
You'll be the person our members turn to when they need support. Your focus will be supporting our members by:
* Providing advice, support and advocacy on workplace issues
* Assisting with enterprise bargaining negotiations
* Negotiating with employers to resolve workplace disputes
* Developing information materials on workplace issues, rights and entitlements
* Working alongside our organising team on issues that matter most
What We're Looking For
We want someone who:
* Believes in trade unionism and understands that collective action creates real change
* Shows empathy and compassion in every interaction with our members
* Understands issues affecting public education and education workers
* Has strong communication skills and can explain complex issues in plain English
* Enjoys problem-solving and finding creative solutions to workplace problems
* Can build and maintain productive relationships with members, employers, and other stakeholders
* Most importantly, you need to be someone who genuinely cares about helping others
Our ideal application would have:
* Experience in education, industrial relations, human resources, or employment law
* Understanding of the Australian industrial relations landscape
* Experience working in or being an active member of a union

What We Offer
* Salary: Up to $129,106 plus 18% superannuation
* Leave: 4 weeks annual leave plus 4 weeks compensatory leave (8 weeks total per year); 18 days personal leave
