Hilton Manufacturing commenced business in 1976 and now operates from two modern factories, located in Dandenong, in the South-East area of Melbourne and one factory located in Queensland. Hilton Manufacturing is a family-owned business and is recognised as the foremost component manufacturer to the Trucking Industry, Defence Force, and Caravan industries providing services to all Australian Truck O.E.M.s and is the preferred supplier to Iveco, Mercedes, Kenworth, Volvo, MACK, and Western Star. The company is also a preferred supplier to Defence and Caravan industries supplying all metal components including chassis, door frames and bumper bars. Hilton Manufacturing also supplies all of the Australian truck companies with aftermarket products.
Purpose
The Production Managers key responsibility is to ensure each of their teams have all the appropriate safety measures, quality checks, tools, skills, and knowledge to get the job done.
This role requires the Manager to coach and mentor Team Leaders, so they can deliver their goals on time and in full.
Role reports direct to General Manager
Key Accountabilities
Health & Safety
· Promote a “Safety First” culture. Ensure that your team is compliant with all relevant legal and statutory safety requirements.
· Safety must be at the forefront with all aspects of work at Hilton.
· Follow safety procedures and policies and re-enforce them to all employees.
· Identify, report, and resolve safety hazards in conjunction with the OH&S team.
· Immediately report any injuries or incidents to the OH&S Coordinator & Human Resources Department.
· Monitor and assist Team Leaders to ensure all safety compliance is adhered to.
· Ensure compliance with the required PPE in the area.
· Actively engage the local OH&S Representative on any proposed changes to their area.
· Ensuring safety management and systems to protect the health and safety of all people by responding to incidents & hazards and identifying improvement areas.
· To follow the guidelines and procedures in accordance with the Environmental Management System.
Housekeeping
· Maintain strong housekeeping and 5S within your department. Conduct periodic housekeeping inspections to ensure that a hazard free and safe workplace is provided to the team.
· Constantly monitor and maintain a clean workplace environment.
· Ensure everyone is responsible for general care, cleanliness, and maintenance of the work environment.
· Assist new starters in understanding and practice of good housekeeping within the Hilton environment.
· Promptly highlight and escalate any housekeeping issues when required.
· Champion 5s principles within your department
Quality
· Establish quality circles to identify and discuss quality issues and implement prompt and appropriate solutions.
· Ensure Hilton’s quality expectations are being met at all quality check points.
· Ensure the departments quality issues are not passed onto the next internal or external customer.
· Use warranty data and customer focused audits to resolve continuous quality issues.
· Ensure feedback from customers and dealers is referred to the relevant individuals.
· Create a quality focused culture and building quality into every process.
· Conduct random quality audits of each team within your area.
· Coach and mentor Team Leaders to identify and rectify quality issues.
· Involvement in all major quality faults and resolutions.
· Attending to reporting, compliance, and system requirements.
· Monitoring product standards and implementing quality programs.
Manufacturing
· Monitor, assist and coach the Team Leaders to maintain the production cycle.
· Discuss with the General Manager on coordinating labour for the department.
· Assist in managing work priorities for the Department.
· Executing production plans in accordance with business targets
· Provide assistance to Team Leaders with labour planning and forecasting requirements.
· Monitor daily KPI for responsible areas.
· Initiate the implementation of continuous improvement within allocated areas.
· Analyse job sheet time for accuracy and efficiency to ensure maximum operational and production efficiency of the department.
· Monitoring production processes and adjusting schedules as needed.
· Being responsible for the safety and maintenance of equipment.
· Plan and manage production flow and scheduling in accordance with delivery times and budget.
· Manage Preventative Maintenance program
· Manage Breakdowns and Plant Issues
People Management and Leadership
· Develop a clear and compelling vision for the department in conjunction with the General Manager.
· Develop the Team Leader daily planner checklist covering activities and timelines. Follow up to ensure compliance and effective implementation of the Team Leader role.
· Resolve employee issues in a professional manner, ensuring the issues have been resolved in accordance with Company policies and procedures. Escalate issues when required to the General Manager. Serious matters must be reported to Human Resources.
· Promote a harmonious team culture, norms and behaviours and accepting responsibility.
· Responsibility for procedural effectiveness, creating processes and ensuring compliance with all Hilton practices.
· Develop systems of work where individuals feel satisfied with their work and personal development.
· Understand, practice, and promote the Hilton Values in all aspects of your work.
· Improve efficiency, responsiveness, and effectiveness to meet changing requirements.
· In conjunction with the General Manager, develop a succession / training plan for your team.
· Monitor absenteeism issues within your team and coach Team Leaders to manage long term offenders.
· Be actively involved in the recruitment process.
· Monitor the progress of new starters in relation to the Team Leader interaction and Buddy program.
· Leadership and Professionalism must be maintained to a high standard, therefore setting the benchmark for other employees to follow.
· Monitor and maintenance of the skills matrix and assist Team Leaders with cross skilling.
· Providing leadership to staff including development of competencies.
· Reinforcing company values to the production teams.
· Identifying and implementing improvement initiatives.
· Monitoring outcomes via KPI’s / PI’s and other reports and implementing corrective actions as appropriate / required.
· Management of Production staff and allocation of duties.
· Management of Occupational Health and Safety and Toolbox Talks.
· Identifying areas of improvement utilising LEAN principles.
· Effective communication and delegation within the organisation.
· Liaise with the Hilton OH&S & RTW Co-Ordinator as required to develop and implement light duties and RTW programs for individuals injured at work.
Stock Control
· Forecasting stock requirements and lead times, ensuring steps are in place to deal with stock shortages and issues.
· Identify and escalate late job sheets and critical parts shortages to relevant stakeholders.
· Assist Team Leaders to identify, plan and manage stock shortages.
· Monitor for effective application and use of the Kanban system.
· Ensure the team is following the standardised Kanban system.
· Ensure processes, records and documentation are up to date and entered in Hilton’s Quality and System Management.
