As the Lead Mechanic at Nighthawk Transport, owned by Marlu Transport Solutions Pty Ltd in Darwin, NT, you will play a vital role in maintaining and repairing the company's fleet of vehicles. This full-time position offers the opportunity to work with a dedicated team and apply your expertise in the Automotive Trades industry.
What you'll be doing
Fleet Maintenance & Repairs
* Plan, schedule, and execute preventative maintenance for all trucks, trailers, and associated equipment.
* Manage unplanned/breakdown maintenance with urgency and efficiency.
* Coordinate repairs via internal resources or approved external vendors when required.
* Monitor and ensure vehicle & asset roadworthiness in accordance with NHVL and NT regulations (Green Slips).
* Ensure roadworthy certificates are scheduled prior to expiry date.
Compliance & Safety
* Ensure all vehicles & assets are compliant with NHVAS and Chain of Responsibility (CoR) standards.
* Maintain accurate service records, inspection logs, and compliance documentation.
* Assist with incident investigations involving mechanical failure (where relevant).
* Ensure Maintenance Management System is maintained daily, and jobs are correctly closed with the true information entered.
Workshop & Team Management
* Maintain a clean, safe, and efficient workshop environment.
* Ensure adherence to WHS policies and procedures.
Inventory & Cost Control
* Oversee parts and inventory management to ensure availability and cost-effectiveness.
* Source quality parts and maintain supplier relationships.
Communication & Coordination
* Liaise closely with Management, Ops Supervisor, Yard Supervisor, HSE/Yard Assistant to align fleet availability with transport needs.
* Provide timely updates regarding vehicle readiness, downtime, and future service schedules.
What we're looking for
* Formal qualifications in automotive mechanics, such as a Certificate IV in Automotive Mechanics and Heavy Mobile Plant, Heavy Diesel Mechanic Qualifications.
* Extensive experience as a Lead Mechanic or Senior Mechanic, preferably in the commercial vehicle industry.
* Minimum 1-2 years of experience as a Lead Mechanic or Senior Mechanic is required.
* Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills to quickly identify and resolve complex issues.
* Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work.
* Effective communication skills to liaise with team members and provide clear instructions.
* Ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team.
* Willing and able to pass a drug and alcohol test and fit for work assessment.
* Australian work authorisation is required for this position.
