HarperLloyd Recruitment is partnering with a highly regarded national insurance law firm to appoint an experienced
Special Counsel or Partner
to its defendant insurance practice in Sydney.
This is a senior appointment within a well-established national team, suited to an accomplished insurance lawyer seeking high-quality work, genuine flexibility and the opportunity to play a meaningful role in the continued development of a leading practice.
With a strong and consistent pipeline of insurer and self-insured client work across
professional indemnity and or property-related claims
, this role offers exposure to complex, high-value matters, close collaboration with nationally recognised Partners, and the ability to shape the practice at a senior level.
The role
Depending on seniority and preference, the role can be structured as a senior technical specialist, client lead, or broader practice contributor.
Your work will include acting for insurers and insureds in defendant insurance matters, including:
* complex
professional indemnity claims
(including for legal, financial services, construction, engineering, health and allied professional risks); and/or
property damage and general property insurance disputes
(including recoveries);
* advising on liability, indemnity, quantum and strategic case management;
* drafting pleadings, evidence and complex advices;
* leading mediations and settlement negotiations;
* court and tribunal appearances (where appropriate);
* managing key insurer, broker and corporate client relationships; and
* working closely with other Partners and senior practitioners on strategy, resourcing and matter management.

You will join a well-credentialed defendant insurance group comprising Partners, Special Counsel, senior lawyers and dedicated support staff.

About you
You will likely bring:
* 8+ years' PAE (or equivalent) in defendant insurance;
* strong experience in
professional indemnity and/or property insurance
matters;
* proven technical expertise and sound commercial judgement;
* confidence managing complex matters and senior client relationships;
* a pragmatic, credible and solutions-focused communication style;
* an interest in mentoring and developing junior lawyers; and
* for Partner-level candidates, a desire to contribute to practice growth and client development (an existing following is welcomed but not essential).
