The Program
The Night Café aims to provide young people experiencing hardship with effective pathways to gain knowledge and skills, access resources and services, and improve social connection and participation. As a Night Café Volunteer you will assist the Youth Workers to provide a safe after‐hours space for young people experiencing homelessness or at the risk of experiencing homelessness (ages 12‐25 years) in inner‐city Brisbane.
The Opportunity
For this role you will need good conversational skills and the ability to relate to and empathise with a broad range of people, including those with different lived experiences, abilities, and cultures.
Key Responsibilities Include
* Serving a hot meal, providing access to toilets and showers, and a chance to connect with relevant services through information and referral.
* Engaging with young people and other volunteers informally and through activities run from the space.
* Observing confidentiality procedures, child protection procedures, and all other relevant policies in line with the Night Café service and Australian Red Cross.
* Maintaining professional boundaries with young people both within and outside Night Café hours.
* Learning about issues affecting young people, including mental illness, homelessness, and drug and alcohol abuse, and empathising with homeless and at‐risk young people.
Red Cross will ensure you have training, ongoing support and access to other opportunities within the world's largest humanitarian network.
The Impact
As a Night Café volunteer, you'll help to increase the skills of young people to take care of themselves and to support their friends.
Application Requirements
* You must undertake a National Police Check, which will be organised through Red Cross.
* You must upload a recent copy of your CV and provide details for two professional references.
* The role will also require you to hold or apply for a Working With Children Check or Working With Vulnerable People Check depending on your State/Territory. Red Cross can assist you to apply for this check.
