Join the team managing the iconic Moreton Bay Marine Park in a hands-on OO4 Ranger role that combines field operations, compliance, infrastructure maintenance and safety leadership in a dynamic marine environment.
This is more than a field-based position — it’s an opportunity to lead by example, influence safety culture, and help safeguard one of Queensland’s most significant marine environments. You’ll gain exposure to diverse operational activities while building leadership capability in a highly respected ranger service.
Great Barrier Reef and Marine Parks (GBR&MP) Region are excited to share an incredible opportunity for a OO4 Ranger to join the team on a Temporary basis until 30th October 2026, with possibility of extension.
As one of the six regions of the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service, the GBR&MP Region delivers conservation and management activities across land and sea including implementing the Reef Joint Field Management Program in the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area. Additionally, the Region oversees the state's southern marine parks - Great Sandy Marine Park and Moreton Bay Marine Park.
Rangers work across a broad range of operational priorities including pest management, fire management, estate and visitor management, and assets and safety. This diversity means no two days are the same. You'll be involved in practical, on-groundwork that can be safely undertaken by non-tradespersons, supporting natural resource management projects and maintaining key marine and terrestrial infrastructure such as moorings, high-use visitor boardwalks and public education signage.
The role also involves high levels of public interaction and compliance activity, both vessel and land-based. You'll represent the department in the field, engaging with park users while undertaking patrols to support conservation and regulatory outcomes.
This position requires flexibility and resilience. Weekend work, extended shifts of up to 10 days, work outside normal hours and travel across the state — sometimes away from home for several days — are part of the operational environment. A strong level of fitness is essential, as is the ability to work in challenging marine conditions, operate from small vessels, and contribute positively within a multi-skilled ranger team.
Role focus:
• Lead and promote a strong safety culture, including chairing quarterly safety meetings and supporting day-to-day safe work practices.
• Contribute to the operational management of Moreton Bay Marine Park through vessel and land-based compliance patrols and high levels of public engagement.
• Deliver practical on-ground works across pest, fire, estate and visitor management, supporting natural resource management outcomes.
• Maintain and support marine and terrestrial infrastructure, including moorings, boardwalks and public signage, while working flexibly across varying shifts and locations.
This is an opportunity to build leadership capability while working in a unique and rewarding marine setting, making a tangible contribution to the protection and management of Queensland's natural assets.
