Offer description

This role offers a chance to use lived experience of supporting someone through mental health challenges, service use, and periods of healing/personal recovery to contribute to change within the delivery of mental health services.

Working in partnership with the Carer Consultant, Director, and Nurse Unit Manager, you will educate staff about the value and contribution of the Carer Lived Experience workforce, engage with organisations involved in the service to better understand its uniqueness, and establish carer participation, representation, and feedback.

You will also assist with recruitment and provide appropriate supports for the Carer Lived Experience workforce, including provision of discipline-specific supervision, mentoring, and leadership.

The Statewide Specialist Women's Mental Health Unit is an innovative project being developed in response to the Royal Commission recommendations for partnerships between the public and private sector, and the need for gender segregation and sexually safe units.

We recognise that women experiencing mental ill-health have specific needs that differ from their male counterparts, requiring tailored treatment and support.

Our 30-bed facility located at Albert Road Clinic Hub will be run in partnership with Ramsay Health. The unit will provide a state-wide comprehensive specialist service for women and those who identify as women experiencing severe mental ill-health and trauma.

Your responsibilities will include ensuring patients are treated with dignity and provided with holistic support to enable their full and effective participation in society, committing to the integration of peer workers into the multidisciplinary team, recognising and supporting the contribution of families, carers, and supporters, and delivering treatment, care, and support that is comprehensive, integrated, high quality, and informed by research, evaluation, and innovation.

To be successful in this role, you must have obtained or be willing to obtain within 12 months a Certificate IV in Peer Work or Certificate IV in Mental Health; or Intentional Peer Support (IPS) 5-day and/or advanced training.

Alfred Health is an equal opportunity employer committed to attracting and retaining a diverse workforce that reflects the community it serves. Applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders are encouraged.

All Alfred Health employees share our values of respect, compassion, and inclusivity.
