About The Opportunity

We're seeking dedicated and collaborative Medical Laboratory Assistants to join the Specimen Reception Service at Nepean Hospital. In this role, you'll be part of a diverse, multicultural team committed to delivering high‐quality service and upholding our core values of respect, integrity, and teamwork. Successful applicants will be required to participate in a 24/7 rotating roster, including weekends and public holidays. We are currently recruiting for a range of employment types, including permanent and temporary positions across full‐time, part‐time, and casual opportunities.

What You'll Be Doing

Contribute to the delivery of a high‐quality, patient‐focused pathology service by performing essential specimen reception duties with accuracy, efficiency, and care. The role is responsible for timely receiving and triaging of pathology specimens; accurate patient registration and request entry; and the correct processing, sorting, and preparation of specimens for transport or delivery to the appropriate laboratories. The position plays a critical part in maintaining workflow continuity and ensuring specimens are handled according to established protocols, safety standards, and turnaround time requirements. By providing reliable support to scientific and clinical teams, the central specimen reception staff member helps enable accurate diagnostic testing, supports patient care outcomes, and upholds the integrity of the pathology service.

Qualifications

* Certificate III in Pathology Collections, or Pathology Assistance, and/or previous experience in a pathology setting or a demonstrated ability to learn all aspects of the pre‐analytical environment.
* Demonstrated ability to manage tasks in a demanding environment with competing priorities and time constraints.
* Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and customers, internal and external.
* Demonstrated problem‐solving and analytical skills combined with the ability to investigate and resolve general issues.
* Willingness to operate and maintain pre‐analytical equipment as required.
* Proficient computer skills including high attention to detail and data accuracy.
* Demonstrated understanding of confidentiality and proper handling of sensitive information in a laboratory setting, following relevant legislation, policies, and requirements.
* Willingness to participate in a 24/7 rotating shift roster, including weekends, public holidays, and night shifts. Current unencumbered Class C driver's licence with the ability to travel between sites as required.
