Matthew C. Smith Racing is currently seeking experienced and capable staff to join its stable at Warwick Farm (Sydney).
The position is full-time, 38 hours per week, with early morning starts and weekend work on a roster rotation.
The successful applicant must be able to educate young horses on the ground while managing a small team of horses and staff under the direction of the head foreperson.
Salary
The salary for this position will be above award, in the range of $73,150 per annum, depending upon the level of skill.
Job Description
We require an individual with excellent horsemanship skills who can demonstrate knowledge and proven experience in horse training and handling methods specific to thoroughbred racing.
The ideal candidate will have:
* Demonstrated ability to train and educate young horses
* Vocational level of English to communicate effectively in the workplace
The role involves:
* Training horses to obey natural and artificial aids
* Resolving horse problems such as shying, spooking, balking, or bolting
* Schooling horses over jumps
* Barrier and Jump Out education
* Occasional strapping duties
* Tacking up, bathing, and grooming duties
* Checking the stable for hazards while mucking out and box duties
* Treating swelling and minor injuries
* Maintaining horse condition and health records
* Forming trackwork schedules and training programs
Required Skills and Qualifications
All applicants must have a minimum of 3 years' full-time professional experience in the role and be able to prove they are reliable workers.
A Certificate III or equivalent international qualification is highly desirable.
Referees are essential.
