The Bureau partners with the aviation industry to enhance the safety and efficiency of flight operations through a network of automatic weather observation systems located at airports across Australia. These systems provide real-time weather reports and alerts essential for air traffic controllers, pilots, and other aviation stakeholders.
Equipped with advanced sensors and intelligent data processing, the systems deliver accurate, high-resolution weather observations. This supports comprehensive situational awareness of weather conditions on the ground and in surrounding airspace.
These observations play a critical role in:
• Aeronautical meteorological reporting and forecasting

In addition to supporting aviation, the data contributes to the Bureau’s broader weather monitoring network, benefiting emergency services, industries, and the general public by improving the accuracy of forecasts and severe weather warnings.
