The role
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Training Supervisor Mining, the purpose of this role is responsible for delivering high-quality drill and blasting training services within the Drill & Blast department. The role ensures that operators possess the necessary skills, knowledge, and authorisations to perform safely and efficiently, contributing to optimal safe production outcomes. This is a permanent full-time role based at our Pilgangoora Operation in the Pilbara region, operating on an 8:6 FIFO roster from Perth or DIDO in the Pilbara region.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct Verification of Competency (VoC) assessments for drill equipment, blasting operations and High‐Risk Work Licences to ensure team members are competent and authorised.
- Deliver structured training programs aligned with PLS standards, site‐specific plans and operational goals.
- Facilitate simulator‐based, classroom and in‐field training to enhance operator skills, safety awareness and production performance.
- Evaluate trainee performance through practical and theoretical evaluations; provide constructive feedback and remedial plans.
- Maintain accurate, auditable training records and ensure all training activities comply with principles of validity, fairness, reliability, flexibility, authenticity and currency.
- Review and update training materials to ensure accuracy and relevance.
- Collect feedback from drilling and blasting crews to enhance training effectiveness.
- Provide responsive on‐the‐ground training support to operations.
- Adapt delivery to meet changing operational needs while maintaining consistency.
- Assist trainees in understanding and applying S.W.I. operating procedures.
- Mentor and coach in‐field line trainers to strengthen internal training capability and consistency.
Qualifications
- Minimum WA Manual HR class driver's licence.
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
- Shotfirer Licence.
- Minimum 5 years open‐pit mining or quarry experience operating Epiroc D65 MKI & II and CAT MD or similar and blasting operations and equipment use.
- Demonstrated expertise in drill operations, equipment and blasting techniques, safety protocols, and regulatory compliance.
- Proven ability to deliver technical training in a professional and engaging manner.
- Current practical experience with the equipment and tasks being trained or assessed.
- Strong presentation, coaching and interpersonal skills to support performance improvement.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Quick learner with adaptability to new technologies and operational needs.
- Strong commitment to safety and the environment.
