Blackjack Milling is a part of Native Mineral Resources (NMR) which is a publicly listed minerals exploration company with a portfolio of precious metal and base metal properties in pedigree Australian settings.
NMR operates the Blackjack Processing Plant, based in the Charters Towers region of Northern Queensland as part of a new and exciting transformational acquisition. This acquisition provides the immediate core with extensive exploration potential; several additional projects currently being prioritised and also offers significant upside through resource growth opportunities.
An exciting opportunity has become available for a Mining Geologist to join our team at the foundational phase of this innovative new project. This role will be based in Charters Towers, North Queensland and reports to the Senior Geologist and Operations Manager.
About the role
The Mine Geologist will play a pivotal role in overseeing the day to day open pit mining and grade control management of the company's mining operations at Charters Towers. The position would suit someone with experience in gold open pit mining, though this is not essential, and training will be given as part of the role.
The Mine Geologist will manage the day to day grade control and mining operations of the geology department, while also overseeing the daily work of the field technicians and they will also be expected to work closely with other departments such as mining, metallurgy and plant operations.
They may also assist in exploration and resource definition drilling programs on a need's basis.
Key Responsibilities
* Oversee daily grade control operations, such as ore spotting and geological data collection
* Mapping pit walls and geological logging of samples
* Supervision of drilling programs and liaising with mining contractors
* Report writing and presentation, generation of maps and plans, collate and present our data
* Collaborate with other departments to address operational challenges proactively
Key Skills
* NMR are seeking a proactive and results-oriented Mine Geologist. This role is ideal for individuals with a few years' experience in mining who are ready to contribute to optimising the mine geology for NMR's tenements, though graduates will be considered.
* You will support integrated planning processes for mining operations, ensuring that defined targets are met
* A knowledge of geological software packages, ideally Datamine &/or Micromine
* Ability to lead safety initiatives and manage compliance with regulatory requirements
* Excellent communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams
* Problem‑solving mindset with a focus on proactive management
Qualifications and Experience
* Tertiary qualification in Geology
* 1-5 years of experience in mining, with a focus on open pit gold operations, though graduates will be considered
* Be an Australian citizen or have permanent residents' status
* Hold a current Australian driver's licence
