About the Role:
This key member of the Materials Technology team works alongside direct teammates and those from design, manufacturing, and supply teams. They use their technical skills to solve material-related issues and support regulatory substances compliance across the whole lifecycle of products; finding resourceful solutions from research through to high-volume manufacturing.
This role requires someone who comes up to speed quickly and thrives in solving real-time problems, exceling at individual work of materials testing and data gathering as well as collaborating closely with others.
Responsibilities include expertly selecting and using instrumentation such as FTIR, DSC, TGA, SEM/EDS, XRD, XRF, HPLC, Mass Spectrometry (LC/GC/ICP) to gather data informing actionable insights for the business.
Regulatory Substances compliance involves monitoring applicable standards and regulations, including REACH, ROHS, California Proposition 65, EU-MDR and other environmental regulations, and coordinating proper testing when needed.
Additionally, this role participates in Root Cause and Failure Analysis, using tools like Kepner Tregoe to bring critical thought process and wide materials knowledge to the table as the Materials Engineering Subject Matter expert.
About You:
To excel as a Materials Engineer, you need to be proactive and insightful with a willingness to be 'hands-on' and at the testing coal face.
You are a critical thinker, problem solver, and excellent communicator with honed influencing skills.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in applied Materials Science or Materials Engineering, or equivalent experience
* Honours degree in applied Materials Science or Materials Engineering, or equivalent experience
* Hands-on experience using different chemical, mechanical, rheological, and physical tools to characterise materials
* Expertise in effective root cause and failure analysis activities
* Extensive knowledge and experience of materials, ideally those used in sleep apnoea masks and devices; plastics, rubbers, composites, and steel
* Knowledge and experience of high-volume manufacturing processes, particularly injection moulding
* Proven project management experience
