Job Description
WSP is looking for a passionate Ecologist or Botanist to join us in our Brisbane office. WSP also has offices on the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast, providing flexibility to work from those locations if preferred.
You will be part of a national team of experts, including botanists, zoologists, environmental planners, scientists, and engagement specialists, working on multi‐disciplinary infrastructure, renewable energy, and local government projects.
Your role will primarily involve undertaking fieldwork and preparing environmental reports to assist clients with environmental approvals, ecological impact assessments, targeted threatened species surveys, vegetation clearance assessments, ecological management plans, offset management plans, and ecological monitoring.
Key Responsibilities
* Conduct ecological surveys and vegetation assessments
* Contribute to project planning, meeting deadlines and budgets
* Build strong relationships with colleagues and clients, and actively participate in developing project scopes and proposals
* Assess data and prepare ecological assessment reports, native vegetation data reports, etc.
* Commit to ongoing professional development including membership of scientific organisations, involvement with environmental groups, and attendance at workshops, conferences, etc.
Qualifications and Experience
You have studied an Environmental or Natural Science discipline such as ecology, botany, biology, or a comparable field.
You are likely to have previous consulting or advisory experience in conducting ecological assessments across various bioregions.
* Field experience such as flora surveys, ecological monitoring, plant species and threatened ecological community identification, etc.
* General fauna survey experience
* Working knowledge of Commonwealth and State environmental legislation
* Experience with field survey design, field data collection, mapping, and use of survey guidelines for flora
* Experience in GIS, field mapping, and developing and managing spatial datasets
* Passion for ecology, conservation, biodiversity, and natural resources management
* Interest and willingness to participate in national projects is desirable
