Zushi is a contemporary Japanese restaurant group known for combining the elegance of traditional Japanese cuisine with a modern Australian twist. Our Zushi Surry Hills venue, operated by Wakame Pty Ltd, is centrally located on Crown Street and offers a vibrant dining experience with indoor, outdoor, and private dining spaces.
We are currently seeking a skilled and motivated full-time Cook to join our team at our Surry Hills location.
About the Role
This is a full-time position responsible for supporting kitchen operations, preparing high-quality dishes, and maintaining consistency in food standards in a fast-paced, modern Japanese restaurant environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Set up workstations with all required ingredients and cooking equipment
* Prepare and cook food in accordance with restaurant standards and recipes
* Assist with daily food preparation as directed by the Head Chef and senior kitchen staff
* Prepare ingredients, including chopping vegetables, cutting meat, and portioning food items
* Monitor cooking processes and ensure food is prepared correctly and efficiently
* Ensure high-quality presentation of dishes before service
* Maintain a clean, organised, and hygienic kitchen environment
* Ensure proper storage and handling of food and ingredients
* Support chefs in delivering consistent food quality and service standards
* Keep up to date with new menu items, recipes, and preparation techniques
* Monitor and maintain kitchen equipment
* Assist the Head Chef with basic staff coordination, including supporting training of junior kitchen staff where required
* Ensure compliance with food safety standards and workplace health and safety regulations
About You
Qualification
* Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery or equivalent
Experience & Skills
* Minimum of 1 year of relevant kitchen experience
* Strong communication and teamwork skills with a positive "can-do" attitude
* Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
* Sound understanding of food preparation, kitchen operations, and food safety standards
* Basic understanding of food cost control and kitchen operations
* Flexibility and initiative in a dynamic work environment
* Demonstrated interest in Japanese or modern Asian cuisine
