The University of Queensland - Lecturer / Senior Lecturer in Art History

Centre for Western Civilisation / School of Communication and Arts

* Full-time, fixed-term position for up to five years
* Position can be offered at Level B or C:
Academic level B will be in the range AUD$114,824 - $136,048 + 17% Superannuation
Academic level C will be in the range AUD$140,293 - $161,518 + 17% Superannuation

In collaboration with the Centre for Western Civilisation, the School of Communication and Arts seeks to appoint an exceptional individual as Lecturer (Level B) or Senior Lecturer (Level C) in Art History to contribute to teaching, research, and service within a dynamic academic environment.

Join an interdisciplinary team delivering an innovative curriculum focused on the foundational texts, ideas, art, and music that have shaped Western thought. The Centre for Western Civilisation aims to recover the meaning of 'great books' and to critically evaluate their value and significance.

You will be responsible for delivering and coordinating art-historical content within the program. This will involve the primary delivery of a survey course on the history of Western art and collaborating with colleagues to deliver art-historical content in a range of other courses.

Key responsibilities will include:

* Teaching: Develop and deliver courses, engage in curriculum design, coordinate courses, assess students, provide academic counseling, and adhere to university teaching rules.
* Research: Establish a research program, collaborate on research projects, seek and manage research funding, publish in reputable journals, utilize best practice research methodologies, and participate in project discussions.
* Supervision and Researcher Development: Supervise students, recruit and manage employees, provide performance feedback and training, resolve conflicts, and ensure correct remuneration and benefits.
* Citizenship and Service: Develop partnerships, demonstrate leadership through mentoring, engage in internal service roles and committees, perform administrative functions, provide support to colleagues, and uphold university values.

About You

Applicants should possess a PhD in a relevant field in the history of art and architecture. We are particularly interested in applications from candidates with specialisms in art and architecture prior to the 20th century.

Additionally, you will demonstrate:

* A growing profile (Level B) or established profile (Level C) in teaching with evidence of high‑quality university teaching at different levels (undergraduate, honours, postgraduate) across a variety of settings.
* Ability to lead/coordinate (Level B) or extensive experience leading/coordinating (Level C) courses and contribute to the development and innovation of curricula and course material. Candidates will be required to teach across the full range of Western art history.
* Ability to supervise (Level B) or demonstrated experience (Level C) supervising honours and Higher Degree Research students to completion.
* A developing (Level B) or sustained (Level C) track record of publication and the ability to conceive and execute a mid to long term research agenda. For Level C, there should be demonstration of such successful pursuit of a research agenda.
* Evidence of seeking (Level B), obtaining and managing (Level C) external research funding as appropriate within the field.
* Experience in internal service roles and a growing profile (Level B) or established profile (Level C) and active contributions of professional expertise that complements the School.
