Service Groups
Metrea maintains nine Support Groups that act as a global shared‐service function for the core capability domains. These groups guide and enable the development of Metrea's products, projects, and programs to help them achieve objectives efficiently and effectively.
Position Summary
Metrea seeks a highly skilled and motivated Software Engineer to provide operational support for cloud‐hosted and desktop solutions deployed across virtual machines, Kubernetes, and PCs. Focus will be on Azure‐hosted solutions, with AWS experience considered a bonus. The role ensures system reliability, security compliance, and operational excellence, including participation in an on‐call rotation.
Role And Responsibilities
* Provide support for cloud and desktop‐based applications running on Kubernetes, Windows VMs, and Windows 11, ensuring SLA‐agreed uptime and performance.
* Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve complex infrastructure and application issues across virtual machines and containerised workloads.
* Implement and maintain observability tools for proactive monitoring and alerting.
* Collaborate with engineering teams to identify and resolve root causes of recurring issues.
* Ensure compliance with Australian security frameworks, including PSPF/ISM and IRAP, assisting with audits and documentation when required.
* Participate in an on‐call rotation, responding to incidents and ensuring rapid resolution outside core work hours.
* Contribute to incident post‐mortems and continuous improvement initiatives.
* Document processes, configurations, and troubleshooting guides for internal knowledge sharing.
* Collaborate closely with teammates, including contributing to code reviews and promoting best practices that improve accessibility, performance, stability, security, and overall quality of the code.
* Mentor other less experienced engineers and help onboard new engineers to the team.
Skills And Experience
* HND or BSc level qualification in Software Engineering or equivalent computer science discipline.
* 3+ years of demonstrable experience in an active software development or support role, developing web‐based applications.
* Strong understanding and practical experience using Kubernetes within a service‐based, cloud‐hosted architecture.
* Experience delivering in an Agile software development environment.
* Drive to learn constantly and further knowledge.
* Strong organisational skills, proactive approach to task delivery, and required documentation.
* Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana and Azure Monitor.
* Excellent interpersonal skills, able to communicate technical issues to non‐technical team members.
Beneficial Experience
* Experience working on geospatial visualization products.
* Experience developing with C#.
* Experience working with relational and/or non‐relational databases.

Security Clearance
Must be an Australian Citizen capable of obtaining or holding an NV1 Security Clearance.
Position Type & Working Hours
This is a full‐time position with typical working hours Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Hours and work shifts may change in accordance with department and business needs. Employees must be able to be on‐call and available, as business needs require. On‐call time will be rostered and expected to be 1 week in every 4‐week period.
Work Location
Perth preferred or Brisbane.
Travel
Some domestic travel will be needed for this role.
