Morris Nautical is looking for a professional, experienced AMSA MED 1 Engineer for a 35m foreign-flagged yacht based in Cairns. This is a hands‑on, sole engineer position requiring exceptional technical expertise across all onboard systems and a proactive, solutions‑oriented approach.
About the role
As an experienced Engineer, you will be required to:
* Ensure the safe and efficient operation of all engineering systems onboard, including propulsion, generators, fuel systems, HVAC, watermakers, hydraulics, refrigeration, and hotel services.
* Maintain, repair, and operate the yacht's mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
* Oversee engineering maintenance schedules and compliance requirements.
* Troubleshoot technical issues with a hands‑on approach.
* Maintain a detailed preventive maintenance program and manage all service schedules and technical records.
* Oversee inventory control of critical spares and coordinate the procurement of parts and technical support as required.
* Implement and uphold safety procedures in accordance with flag state requirements and keep all engineering logs, records, and statutory documentation up to date.
* Conduct regular system checks and fault diagnosis to minimise downtime.
About you
* STCW95/COST
* Valid AMSA MED 1 or Y4
* Seafarers medical certificate
* Previous experience in a similar role on vessels of comparable size
* Experience as Chief or sole engineer on vessels of similar size and complexity
* Strong working knowledge of engines, electrical systems, hydraulics, HVAC etc
* Familiarity with maintenance software and electronic logbooks
* High level of autonomy, attention to detail, and ability to problem‑solve under pressure
* Australian working rights only
