Primary objective
This position is to develop strategic policy advice, community governance models and implementation of DoE community
engagement initiatives within the Indigenous Education Strategy and ensure alignment to Northern Territory Government Local
Decision-Making agenda.
Context statement
The Community Engagement Team is responsible for building strong partnerships with students, families, communities and industry
across the Northern Territory. This work will contribute to how schools and the education system can work effectively with parents
and communities to benefit the children they serve.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Develop and Implementation of the Indigenous Education Strategy in the Northern Territory.
2. Provide high level on-site support and guidance with respect to community engagement to schools, divisions, community
members and other key stakeholders.
1. Provide high-level advice and support to senior staff on all matters related to the development, management and operation of
school and community governance models, including community engagement and Local Decision Making.
4. Develop and maintain effective collaborative partnerships and strategic alliances and promote cross-divisional coordination of
information and advice to ensure sound and connected policy development.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal societies, and cultures and an understanding of the issues affecting
Aboriginal people in contemporary Australian society and the diversity of circumstances of Aboriginal people.
2. Highly developed written, oral and interpersonal communication skills including the capacity to negotiate, defend or explain
difficult and complex data and/or positions to a range of audiences and the ability to make articulate presentations.
3. Solid understanding of corporate and strategic planning processes; proven ability to gather intelligence from, and consensus
among people with varying and relevant perspectives.
4. Demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and effectively, including the ability to negotiate, mediate and resolve issues
in a culturally appropriate manner with various levels of stakeholders.
1. Proven capacity to work effectively in a school situation and to foster collaboration with key stakeholders to achieve desired
educational outcomes.
6. Working with Children Clearance Card (Ochre Card).
Desirable
1. Relevant Diploma or tertiary qualifications in Community Development.
2. Knowledge of Government policies, procedures and the operations of Northern Territory schools
Further information
The occupant of this position must have a Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card), a current driver's licence, and be willing
to travel by 4WD and in light aircrafts to regional and remote Aboriginal communities.
