Our team works to keep our community safe by enacting systems to effectively regulate the acquisition, possession, use and disposal of registered firearms and weapons as envisaged by the Weapons Act 1990 (Qld). Through our work we enable people with a genuine need and reason to own and operate a weapon.

You will assist in coordinating and managing day to day operational and resource functions for the nominated sections within Weapons Licensing. To gain a broad knowledge in all section disciplines, this position may be rotated within the other sections.


Your Key Accountabilities

* Provide leadership and direction to a team responsible for the provision of accurate and timely advice to clients.
* Assist in the supervision and co-ordination of staff operations including training and development and performance management.
* Coordinate the processing of applications and correspondence in accordance with relevant legislation, standards and guidelines.
* Recommend as required, and coordinate the approved issue of withdrawal, suspension, revocation, replacement and surrender of licences, permits or authorities as required by legislation, standards and guidelines.
* Prepare correspondence for the Authorised Officer and/or senior management of Weapons Licensing
* Maintain current office systems, policies and procedures, within an environment of continuous improvement, to ensure Unit and Service performance targets are met.
* Resolve incomplete applications, and application discrepancies, by liaising and providing advice to applicants, stakeholders, Unit and Service staff.


Role Requirements

* There are two temporary positions available until 30 June 2026, with the possibility of extension. If selected, public service officers from other agencies will be seconded for the period concerned, subject to agreement and release by the home agency.
* The occupant of this position will assist in the supervision of a number of Client Service Officers.
* Applicants are advised that whilst performing the duties of the position they may be exposed to material (written, visual and audio) of a graphic and or sensitive nature.
