Our Community Services Trainee will provide support to team members delivering the Step Up Now (Sun) Program which has the goal to assist clients to engage in training and either gain employment or engage in school/further training.
Position Duration
The position will be permanent up until the end of December **** at which time an evaluation of both the program, salary and the incumbent will be conducted. Confirmation of a contract extension will be subject to your performance, funding and the achievement of agreed project objectives.

Accountabilities
The trainee is accountable to the CEO and the James St Program Manager
Requirements
The position will be conditional on the successful candidate passing and maintaining a Federal Police check to the organisations satisfaction and being eligible to receive and maintain a 'Suitability Card for Child Related Employment' from the Commission for Children and Young People. This approval is necessary to be able to work in educational institutions with children in Queensland. Details can be found at

Key Result Areas
Provide assistance (under direction) to young people in various ways to support their progression through the Step Up Now (SUN) program
Undertake computer-based recording utilising on-line software to record client progress as per specific contractual responsibilities
Undertake administrative duties which will include updating of file notes, work experience placement calls, handling inquiries, filing and general administrative duties, answering and making phone calls etc
Maintain relevant file notes on clients to record activity and assist with contractual reporting
Provide support and assistance to other staff as directed
Key Selection Criteria
It is expected that the incumbent will have some knowledge of the youth sector and the issues faced by youth in the community today
Good communication skills coupled with the ability to work independently with a high level of initiative and motivation
Good teamwork skills and the ability to follow guidelines and procedures
Demonstrated ability to liaise with diverse groups (i.e. students, employers, industry representatives, education professionals, committees, group training organisations, training providers and government departments)
Knowledge of human resource issues including Workplace Health & Safety, EEO and Anti-Discrimination
An understanding of young people including their support networks and current issues concerning youth in the community
An operational knowledge of computers and software applications including the Microsoft suite of programs, e-mail and the Internet
Responsibilities / Duties / Activities
maintain regular communication with the applicable Supervisor and other team members
assist officers as directed to support activities related to clients
greet visitors or guest presenters to the DISCO premises
undertake cleaning tasks as directed
take and place phone calls related to the operation of the site and the respective programs
contribute information and participate in office and organisation meetings both at DISCO and in conjunction with corporate or community partners
undertake administration duties including: answering the phone when required, checking e-mails, bookings (e.g. bus, venues), taking and file management of photos and videos, maintaining attendance register, computer records maintenance etc
when directed provide information on costs or prepare expense claims to allow invoices to be raised
assist with the facilitation of group activities and workshops
work with the Registered Training Organisation to enable the progression of clients in the program
work with clients to assist them to progress their training to ensure the attainment of competencies and ultimately their training certificate
provide assistance to families and clients linked to the program and (where possible) provide language support and assistance
attend appropriate training courses to improve individual performance and participate with other team members as required to improve individual and organisational skill levels
undertake training as per suggested schedule of the community services trainee training schedule
offer assistance and support to other DISCO officers and programs to benefit specific projects and the organisation generally
Performance Objectives
Successful completion of community service certificate units and achievement of the relevant qualification assessed against the training plan proposed by the training provider. Assessed against feedback from the RTO trainer and applicable Supervisor
Working supportively with all team members to assist in the successful delivery of the SUN program that meets the requirements of our contract. Assessed against program milestones throughout the year
