Sister/Charge Nurse Band 6 – Emergency Department
Epsom Hospital base site

We are currently looking to recruit Band 6 registered Emergency Department nurses, who are motivated, innovative, with strong clinical knowledge & skills, excellent communication skills and who have a passion and dedication to providing excellent emergency care.

Our Emergency Floor houses a combination of assessment areas that enable us to deliver our Urgent and Unscheduled Care pathways. It consists of the Emergency Department, Same Day Emergency Care Unit and Urgent Treatment Centre.

To be considered for this role, you will be a registered nurse with demonstrable clinical expertise, relevant to the ED.

Applicants must be flexible in shift working patterns to include weekdays, Weekends, nights and bank holidays.

You will receive a specialty specific induction programme that is supported by a competency framework for you to complete and opportunities to further develop your nursing career through courses.

No two days are the same in an Emergency Department, however, what we can promise to offer is an opportunity to develop and enhance your skills within a friendly and knowledgeable team.

Main duties of the job
The expectations within this job description will be met through professional leadership, clinical management, hands on clinical practice, education and training, and research.

The post holder will ensure that high quality nursing care is delivered within their designated clinical area.

The post holder will assist in setting the standards of clinical practice, in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team, and will monitor patient outcomes.

The post holder will take direct managerial responsibility for the Emergency Department in the absence of or as delegated by the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse or senior Nurse.

The post holder will assist in the leadership and development of an identified group of nurses and with the development and training of nursing and midifery students

About the Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust

We offer an extensive range of services, including cancer, pathology, surgery, and gynaecology to 500,000 people in south west London and north east Surrey. We operate two busy general hospitals, Epsom Hospital and St Helier Hospital, and run services from other locations, including Sutton Hospital. St Helier Hospital is home to the South West Thames Renal and Transplantation Unit and Queen Mary's Hospital for Children, while Epsom Hospital is home to the South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre (SWLEOC). Both Epsom and St Helier hospitals have Accident and Emergency departments (A&E) and Maternity services (Obstetrics).

We also play an active role in the local healthcare economy, and are the lead provider in two innovative health and care partnerships.

In Surrey Downs (that's the Epsom, East Elmbridge and Dorking areas), we have partnered with CSH Surrey, the three GP federations in the Surrey Downs area, and Surrey County Council (who are an associate member), to provide adult community health services. This innovative partnership is called Surrey Downs Health and Care.

In Sutton, we have joined forces with the London Borough of Sutton, Sutton GP Services and South West London and St George's Mental Health Trust to provide community health services and sexual health services to local people. Together, we are called Sutton Health and Care.

*Qualifications
Essential criteria*

* Registered Nurse
* Relevant post-registration qualification at level 2/3
* Teaching and assessing course
* Acutely Unwell Adult or other qualifications relevant to speciality

Desirable criteria

* Diploma degree or working towards
* Manchester Triage Trained

Knowledge
*Essential Criteria*

* Knowledge of current clinical and professional issues.
* Understanding of Clinical Audit & Clinical Governance

Desirable criteria

* Knowledge and understanding of change management theories

* Good written communication skills
* Willingness to develop own practice
