The Carer Support Worker holds a crucial role in recruiting, developing, and continuously supporting carers within the Permanency Support Program (PSP). The objective of this position is to ensure that carers are well-equipped and supported to deliver high-quality care tailored to the diverse needs of children and young people in Out of Home Care. Working in collaboration with the case management team, the Carer Support Worker will recruit and identify suitable carers and provide them with the necessary support to cultivate a loving and safe home environment, address the well-being and development needs of the children and young people, and help them achieve their permanency goals.
In this role you will:
* Ensure active and quality support structures and supports are in place for all carers
* Advocate for the best interests of children and young people, ensuring their voices are heard in all case planning and decision-making processes.
* Ensure that services and interventions are responsive to the cultural, developmental, and emotional needs of children, families, and carers
* Conduct provisional assessments for emergency or short-term placements, ensuring timely and effective decision-making.
* Contribute and participate in the development of the carer recruitment strategy and planning.
* Conduct information sessions and community outreach to promote the program and engage with diverse communities.
* Develop and deliver pre-authorisation and ongoing training programs for carers, ensuring they are informed, confident, and equipped to meet the needs of children and young people.
* Facilitate group training sessions and workshops to foster peer learning and community-building among carers.
* Provide individualised coaching and mentoring for carers who need additional support to build their confidence and skills.
* Participate in audits and quality assurance processes to ensure compliance with accreditation and funding requirements.
* Address issues of misconduct or underperformance among carers through formal processes, providing appropriate guidance, coaching, and corrective actions
* Provide on-call after-hours support as part of a rostered duty, ensuring that urgent issues related to child protection, case management, or carer support are addressed
* Highlight and report any challenges, trends, and areas for improvement to assist with organisational planning and decision-making
* Comply with child protection obligations and safeguarding requirements in all aspects of service delivery.
What you will bring to the role:
* A degree qualification in Social Work, Social Science, Psychology, or a related field or Diploma with 3 year's experience
* Experience in child protection, foster care, or a related field, with a strong understanding of the challenges and requirements of carers.
* Demonstrated experience working with carers to conduct comprehensive assessments and reviews of carers authorisations, including home visits, interviews, and compliance checks.
* Experience in developing and delivering training programs and support groups, with the ability to adapt content to suit a variety of learning styles and needs, specifically for people whom English is a second language
* Sound knowledge of the Permanency Support Program, child protection legislation, and OCG accreditation standards.
* Experience working with diverse populations, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, Culturally and Linguistically Diverse communities, and an understanding of the cultural considerations in foster care.
* Proven ability to prepare high-quality reports and documentation.
* Experience in maintaining accurate and up-to-date case records and adhering to compliance and regulatory requirements.
* Ability to be flexible and adaptable to the needs of the program work occasional evening or weekend work for training, recruitment events, and carer support.
* NSW Working with Children Check
