MENTOR & LIAISON OFFICER
About the Role
Gladstone Ports Corporation (GPC) is seeking a passionate, community-focused Mentor & Liaison Officer – Indigenous Affairs to join our team on a temporary basis to provide maternity leave cover. This identified position is open to applicants who have Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander, or Australian South Sea Islander heritage.
This role is a vital part of GPC's support for Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and Australian South Sea Islander youth to achieve their full potential through mentoring, traineeships and meaningful employment pathways. Working closely with community members, families, schools and internal teams, you will help deliver positive and lasting outcomes for our people and community.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
* Liaise with Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and Australian South Sea Islander community stakeholders, trainees, families, schools and support organisations
* Identify, engage and support potential candidates through recruitment, onboarding and traineeship pathways
* Deliver engagement sessions to inform and attract potential trainees and key stakeholders
* Provide ongoing mentoring, guidance and support to trainees throughout their employment and study
* Maintain records of current and potential trainees and coordinate GPC's Stay in Touch network
* Identify internal learning, skills-based development and future employment opportunities
* Manage the Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and Australian South Sea Islander bursary program and support event delivery
* Contribute to reporting on the Engagement and Employment Strategy and support implementation of GPC's Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP)
* Support understanding and implementation of Indigenous Land Use Agreements (ILUAs) as part of Indigenous Affairs team coverage
About You
You are a trusted relationship builder with a strong connection to community and a genuine passion for mentoring and development. You bring cultural awareness, sound judgement and the ability to work respectfully with diverse stakeholders.
You will demonstrate:
* Strong mentoring, coaching and development skills
* Knowledge and understanding of local Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and Australian South Sea Islander communities, culture and history
* High-level engagement and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain positive relationships
* A values-driven, people-centred approach with a strong safety mindset
* Sound decision-making skills and the ability to work with autonomy and discretion
Qualifications & Requirements
* Certificate III in Business Administration (desirable) or equivalent experience
* Current C Class Driver Licence (mandatory)
* Maritime Security Identification Card (MSIC) or the ability to obtain
