This is a great opportunity to be part of the world’s largest bulk export port authority, encompassing the operating ports of Ashburton, Dampier, Port Hedland and Varanus Island, and five future port sites. You will be responsible for delivery of Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) accredited Vessel Traffic Services (VTS) to ensure the safe, efficient and compliant movement of vessels whilst maintaining a high level of situational awareness within the within the Port of Dampier, Ashburton, Varanus Island and VTS coverage area.
The VTSO is responsible to ensure the safe and efficient management of shipping related activities as detailed in the relevant manuals and operating procedures. The VTS Centre operates on a 24/7 basis.
About You
Previous experience in port operations, the maritime industry, or as a deck officer, combined with strong nautical knowledge and the ability to remain calm and maintain focus under pressure in a fast paced environment, is highly desirable. You will demonstrate a sound understanding of vessel manoeuvring, COLREGs, port operating procedures, and traffic management principles. Strong teamwork skills are essential, with the ability to work collaboratively with fellow VTS operators, pilots, masters, and internal stakeholders to ensure safe, efficient, and coordinated port operations within a safety critical environment.
This role operates on a 6 days on / 6 days off roster, typically working 3 days, 3 nights, followed by 6 days off.
