Marine Maintenance Technician/Fitter (Part Time)

About the Role
The maintenance part of the job involves conducting routine planned maintenance, attending to breakdowns, assisting contractors with higher-level maintenance, supporting onboard engineers, skippers, and crew when required, and performing ad-hoc duties on vessels and around jetties/offices.
This role supports our Maintenance Manager with planned maintenance and breakdowns for NT vessels. It is a part-time position, ideally 3 days per week, with flexibility to change days and hours as arranged with the Maintenance Manager.
You will be part of a professional maritime support team, working alongside external contractors to maintain vessels.
The systems and machinery you will gain exposure to include:
* 3 vessels of varying lengths
* Auxiliary systems (Air-conditioning, Refrigeration, Pumps, Hydraulics, Sullage)
* Electrical and instrumentation systems
* Hull structures and fittings
* General handyman tasks
* Workshop and storage facilities oversight
About You Skill Requirements:
* Safety conscious
* Positive attitude, dedicated, reliable, motivated, proactive
* Seeks approval from authorities
* Professional at all levels
* Builds positive relationships
* Willing to work outside business hours during peak periods
Qualifications:
* Certificate in Mechanical Trade (Diesel fitter, electrical, refrigeration, plumbing) - preferred
* Confined spaces ticket (preferred)
* Working at Heights ticket (preferred)
* Open Drivers Licence
* Marine Engine Drivers Ticket - not essential
Experience:
* Welding, painting, plumbing experience preferred
* Electrical fault-finding
* Workshop practices including OH&S and housekeeping
* Warehousing or inventory management
* Knowledge of WH&S obligations in marine/transport industry
* Proficient in English
* Good communication and interpersonal skills
* Computer skills, familiarity with MEX or similar software an advantage
* Experience servicing, inspections, preventative maintenance, repairs on vessels
* Proactive and team-oriented work approach
