About the role:

The Aboriginal Maternal Infant Health Service (AMIHS) offers prenatal and postnatal care for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander families. Our objective is to deliver tailored, culturally sensitive support and education throughout pregnancy and the initial 6 to 8 weeks following childbirth. As our newest Registered Midwife (RM) within the service, you will be working within our local community to provide antenatal education; undertake health checks for both the women and their babies; provide breastfeeding support; and plan midwifery care based on your assessment findings to empower women to make informed decisions relating to their pregnancy, labour and postnatal needs. Antenatal and Postnatal home visiting may be required as appropriate, so a NSW Drivers Licence and willingness to travel for work is essential in this role.

You won't be working alone. You will be supported by the close-knit midwifery team including the Maternity Unit Manager (MUM), Clinical Midwifery Educators (CME) and the other Registered Midwives. The Maternity team at Maitland Hospital are well known for their inclusive and friendly culture, and are ready to welcome you into the fold

Maitland is booming in population and opportunity. The region offers experiences in arts and culture, sport, heritage and indulgences in food, wine and shopping. Being a forty-minute drive to the beach or the Hunter Valley wine district and only two hour drive to Sydney it is well placed to offer you a superb lifestyle. Maitland is rich in history with striking architecture and home to a closed gaol that was once home to some of Australia's most hardened and notorious convicts. There is a selection of public and private schools and with a number of new housing developments. It is an affordable region that has all the amenities that you need.
