Assistant Financial Accountant
Location – Parramatta / hybrid
Employment type – Temporary Full Time – 9.5 months (Backfill)
Grade/Salary – Clerk Grade 5/6 - $99,938 to $110,271 pa, plus employer's contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading
Your role
We are seeking an enthusiastic and detail-oriented Assistant Financial Accountant to join our Companies, Concessions and Capital team on a 9.5 months temporary backfill. This role is ideal for candidates who are looking to expand their finance capabilities and gain hands-on experience in public sector finance.
The role involves liaising with Service Level Agreement (SLA) entities on their financial matters and delivering end-to-end financial reporting duties, including the preparation of financial statements. You will also gain exposure to DCJ's fixed asset accounting processes, getting valuable experience in DCJ asset management.
What you'll do
In this role, you will:
* Prepare selected month-end reconciliations and perform analytical reviews of SLA entities
* Prepare and post journals and adjustments as required to support accurate financial reporting
* Liaise with SLA representatives to provide guidance and support in resolving finance-related queries
* Draft financial reporting position papers and financial statements of SLA entities
* Support internal and external audit requirements by providing accurate data and documentation
* Assist with fixed assets related activities including year end reconciliation, annual stocktake and adhoc analysis as required
What we're looking for
We're seeking someone who can work independently, show initiative, and contribute confidently from day one. The ideal candidate will have:
* Basic accounting knowledge with an understanding of financial principles and reporting.
* Advanced Excel skills and the ability to interpret, analyse and present data effectively.
* A can-do attitude with a willingness to learn and take ownership of tasks.
* Strong people and communication skills to collaborate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders.
* Familiarity with MWZ (or similar financial systems) and an ability to quickly adapt to new platforms and processes.
