· Base Salary $127, % superannuation



About the opportunity



At the University of Sydney Susan Wakil School of Nursing and Midwifery (Sydney Nursing School)

we integrate teaching, research, and scholarship with practice and policy development, while fostering engagement with all health professions.

We are seeking an experienced research academic to support Melissa Baysari and the Digital Health Human Factors Group on research projects related to AI-enabled Clinical Decision Support Systems, to maximise the benefits and the minimise risks of these new technologies.

· conduct original health services research independently and in teams, producing high‑quality publications, conference papers, and contributing to competitive funding applications

· lead components of a broader program of research focused on AI‑enabled clinical decision support systems

· assist on AI‑enabled clinical decision support projects, including examining how clinicians use AI in real clinical contexts

· undertake qualitative and quantitative data collection (e.g., interviews, observations, surveys, analysis of system‑use data)

· conduct detailed qualitative and quantitative data analysis and contribute to scholarly publications

· complete comprehensive literature reviews related to digital health, human factors, AI in healthcare, and clinical decision support

· develop research collaborations and participate in translational research that enhances policy, practice, industry, and community outcomes

· work effectively with multidisciplinary teams including clinicians, human factors experts, computer scientists, and AI experts

· engage with internal and external key stakeholders such as healthcare services, government bodies, technology vendors, and research partners

· apply and maintain working knowledge of health technologies and how they operate within healthcare environments

· consider strict governance, safety, ethical, and regulatory requirements related to digital health and AI in clinical settings

· provide training, informal mentoring, and supervision to junior academics and postgraduate students where appropriate

· foster a positive workplace culture that values collaboration, diversity of thought, innovation, and excellence

· build productive relationships and collaborations with external stakeholders that contribute to improved outcomes for the profession, industry, and community



About you

· PhD in Medicine and Health with a focus on digital health

· strong research experience relating to the use of digital health with a focus on clinician workflow and safety

· a track record leading or contributing to systematic reviews in digital health

· capability to develop health technology requirements aligning technical features with clinical needs, governance and principles of good design

· proficiency in mixed‑methods research: qualitative interviews/observations, surveys, analysis of system‑use, and thematic analysis

· familiarity with health technologies and the digital health landscape, including how health technologies operate in practice

· understanding of strict governance, ethics and safety processes in healthcare research (ethics submissions, site governance, privacy, and risk mitigation for AI)

· experience working with multidisciplinary teams (clinicians, human‑factors specialists, data scientists, software developers) and engaging internal/external stakeholders (health services, vendors, government, research partners)

· evidence of contributing to competitive funding (grant/tender preparation) and producing conference papers and peer‑reviewed publications

· strong project coordination skills: stakeholder liaison at health sites, meeting organisation, protocol development, timelines, and budget support

· clear, concise research communication: drafting and reviewing manuscripts, preparing conference presentations, and translating findings for policy and practice audiences
