Reporting to the Senior Lawyer and Property Advisor this role is a key addition to Council's internal legal function. The Lawyer will provide independent legal advice across a broad range of matters supporting the organisation to manage risk, make sound decisions and reduce reliance on external providers.
This is a true generalist in house role offering exposure across a wide portfolio rather than narrow specialisation. The position will suit a lawyer who enjoys working closely with stakeholders and providing practical commercially minded advice in a public sector environment.
The successful candidate must hold an unrestricted practising certificate and be able to provide legal advice without supervision. In house experience is desirable but not essential and Melton City Council is open to candidates from private practice or other sectors who are seeking a broader and more varied role. Local government experience is welcomed but not required. The organisation is open to candidates from universities, health services and other large asset based or public sector organisations where similar legal functions exist. The successful candidate should have experience in a minimum of two areas of law including property, commercial, contracts, procurement, or administrative law.
