As the steward for digitally enabling Australia's health system, the Agency plays a key role in coordinating national engagement, delivery, and adoption of digital health to facilitate person-centred, connected healthcare. Our responsibilities span national digital health services and systems, including My Health Record, Electronic Prescriptions, and my health App.

About the Role

The Assistant Director, Conformance Modernisation is a full-time ongoing position providing strategic and operational leadership within the Connected Care Branch. The role supports the delivery of conformance services that enable safe, secure, and interoperable digital health systems.

Reporting to the Director, the Assistant Director leads the development and implementation of conformance frameworks aligned with national standards, with a strong emphasis on HL7 FHIR, and regulatory requirements. This includes overseeing risk-based conformance requirements and ensuring their integration into testing and assurance processes. The role also manages a multidisciplinary team and fosters collaboration across the Agency and sector to support national digital health priorities.

This is a strategic and collaborative role suited to someone with deep expertise in HL7 FHIR, conformance, and digital health policy implementation.

Key Responsibilities
* Lead a team to deliver conformance services aligned with national priorities and program timelines.
* Develop and implement conformance frameworks and test specifications based on national standards and regulatory requirements.
* Apply structured risk assessment across legal, policy, privacy, architecture, cybersecurity, and clinical safety domains.
* Represent the section in internal and external forums to promote alignment and collaboration.
* Build and maintain effective stakeholder relationships across the Agency and the wider digital health sector.
Skills and Experience (Essential Criteria)
* Tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
* Demonstrated experience in developing conformance requirements and test specifications.
* Proven ability to apply structured risk assessment across multiple domains including legal, policy, privacy, architecture, cybersecurity, and clinical safety.
* Demonstrated experience in at least one of the following disciplines: business and systems analysis, data analysis, software engineering, solution architecture, or testing.
* Strong leadership capabilities with proven experience leading multi-disciplinary teams in complex service delivery environments.
* Demonstrated experience in digital health project delivery and working knowledge of digital health standards and specifications, particularly HL7 FHIR, is highly desirable.
* Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to represent the section in diverse forums.
