**About the Role**
As a Residential Support Worker, your role will support a safe and caring home environment for Children and Young People who have experienced childhood trauma, abuse, or neglect.
Your duties include providing individualised support and mentorship, facilitating the development of independent life skills, aiding in emotional regulation, and offering opportunities for re-engagement in education and community activities.
We seek team members with experience in supporting those who may display behaviours of concern including aggression, self-harm, drug use and absconding. Successful applicants will have prior experience working with children and young people and hold a solid understanding of childhood trauma and its effects is essential.
These positions, available on both a permanent and casual basis, are situated in the South Metro and Peel regions. Shifts are typically scheduled between 2pm and 10pm on weekdays, with various morning and afternoon shifts on weekends.
**Key **Responsibilities** 
- Promote and assist young people to achieve goals identified in Individual Case Plans 
- Assist young people to develop independence and build community networks 
- Support the young person's interests 
- Establish a rapport and collaborate effectively with young people to achieve positive outcomes 
- Manage behavioural escalations and assist the young person to co-regulate emotionally 
- Domestic duties and supporting the young person to learn how to look after themselves eg cooking, housework, laundry 
- Communicate with the care team and report incidents promptly and accurately 
- Medication administration (when required) 
- Maintenance of progress notes and record keeping
**Skills & Experience** 
- Minimum qualification level - Certificate IV in Youth Work, Mental Health, or relevant qualification 
- Experience working with young people who have experienced significant trauma and neglect, including the management of behaviours of concern 
- Ability to demonstrate highly effective interpersonal skills with young people and stakeholders 
- Demonstrate confidentiality and have strong understanding of professional boundaries 
- Experience working with young people from indigenous or other cultural backgrounds 
- A current Provide First Aid (HLTAID003 or HLTAID011) & CPR (HLTAID001 or HLTAID009) Certificate/s 
- A current Drivers Licence
**Additionally, experience with behavioural management approaches including Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI), positive behaviour support, trauma and attachment, Sanctuary or CARE residential models will be highly regarded** 
- To be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 with a minimum of two (2) doses or hold a valid medical exemption certificate, in accordance with Life Without Barriers Employee COVID-19 Vaccination Policy. You will be required to provide evidence of your vaccination status during the recruitment process._
