An exciting career awaits you at ASC, Australia's submarine company - the sustainer of Australia's conventionally armed, nuclear-powered submarines in the AUKUS partnership. To deliver on this new and exciting work, we are seeking skilled trades individuals to undertake long-term, world-leading training in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, U.S.

Placements are available in August for a duration of 29 months.

Responsibilities

In the role of a Mechanical Engineer specialising in fluid systems, your responsibilities are:

* Perform complex calculations and design modifications for all fluid mechanical systems, including piping, HVAC, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
* Conduct on-site inspections of ship systems to assess condition, troubleshoot malfunctions, and recommend repairs or upgrades.
* Prepare cost estimates, technical reports, and schedules.
* Provide hands‐on support in a shipyard environment, which may include working on board vessels.
* Ensure compliance with security regulations and safety protocols in accordance with NAVSEA.

Eligibility Criteria

The successful applicant must possess:

* Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering (mandatory)
* Minimum 2 years of post‐graduate experience in mechanical engineering (mandatory)
* Previous experience working on hydraulic systems (desirable)
* Ability to complete 29 months training in Hawaii, followed by permanent relocation to Perth, WA
* Ability to obtain and maintain an NV1 defence clearance

During deployment, you will receive on‐the‐job training combined with instructor‐led classroom training. This training program and work is carried out in accordance with company and U.S. Navy processes and procedures.

At the completion of your deployment, you will return to Western Australia (WA) to carry out the planning, management, and in‐water maintenance activities on the United States Navy Virginia Class Submarines. Repatriation to WA is non‐negotiable, so please consider this when applying.

Please note: This is a Civilian role and recruitment processes will differ from those undertaken in Active Service Defence recruitment.
