We are seeking a highly experienced and technically capable Senior Distribution Engineer to join our team in Melbourne. In this role, you will lead design and engineering activities for overhead and underground electricity distribution networks, ensuring safe, compliant and cost-effective delivery of engineering solutions. Experience working with Powercor Australia (or similar DNSP) is highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and execute engineering design of overhead and underground distribution networks (typically up to 22 kV / 66 kV or as per local standard)
* Review and approve design deliverables including alignment drawings, pole line layouts, cable routes, jointing schedules, and material lists
* Ensure compliance with relevant engineering standards (e.g., AS/NZS standards, DNSP design standards) and safety in design practices
* Interface with the network owner (e.g., Powercor), internal stakeholders (planning, operations, asset management) and external stakeholders (developers, contractors)
* Mentor and guide junior engineers and draftspeople, promoting best-practice design and documentation
* Provide design assurance / quality control: checking drawings, specifications, design calculations and cost estimates
* Contribute to continuous improvement of design processes, tools and standards
* Degree in Electrical Engineering (or related), with minimum 7–10 years' experience in power distribution network design (overhead & underground)
* Proven track record designing overhead line and underground cable systems for distribution networks
* Practical experience of working with a DNSP (preferably Powercor Australia) or equivalent in Australia
* Strong knowledge of relevant standards, design practices and safety requirements in the Australian distribution environment
* Excellent stakeholder communication skills and ability to lead technical discussions
* Experience with engineering design software, GIS tools, AutoCAD/MicroStation or equivalent
* Ability to manage multiple projects, set priorities, ensure quality outcomes and meet deadlines
* Experience specifically with Powercor Australia's design standards and processes
* Chartered Engineer status (or working towards)
* Familiarity with estimating, procurement or construction interface in distribution networks
* Exposure to project delivery/asset management lifecycle in a utility environment
