Role Description
The successful candidate will lead strategic financial management for Australia and New Zealand, acting as a key business partner to the Vice President – Australia and Current Zealand. Responsibilities include maintaining and expanding banking relationships, local statutory audit and tax compliance, and business performance, while collaborating closely with the Shared Services team. This role is for the internal finance team in Airswift.
The Financial Controller will also be responsible for the monthly actual financials and developing, interpreting and implementing financial planning, reporting, budgeting and control for the business unit to enhance governance, cost control and financial performance analysis against budget and quarterly reforecasts.
Principal Accountabilities
Strategic Financial Partnership
Act as a strategic trusted advisor to the Vice President to support financial management and drive continuous process improvement. Influence regional decision-making through financial insight. Evaluate new business proposals, including full economic impact and cash flow requirements. Lead the annual budgeting and quarterly reforecasting process, ensuring timely and complete submissions aligned with group timelines. Prepare or review monthly variance analysis comparing actuals to budget and prior year, with recommendations for management. Analyse financial data to produce forecasts of business, industry, and economic conditions.
Financial Reporting & Month-End Close
Oversee month‑end reporting by the CoE (GL and FP&A; team). Ensure local statutory accounts are produced and audited on time. Ensure all direct taxes (CIT, PIT) and indirect taxes (GST, VAT, etc.) are filed in an accurate and timely manner. Ensure that all statutory filings and payments in relation to employment are completed in an accurate and timely manner (e.g., Superannuation). Ensure compliance with any other government bodies e.g. Tax office. Maintain all company documents in accordance with Company Act requirements. Liaise with external auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory bodies to ensure full compliance, audit readiness, and timely resolution of financial queries. Partner with the Shared Services Director – ASPAC to ensure timely and accurate delivery of transactional finance services.
Treasury & Cash Flow Management
Coordinate with Central/Regional Treasury to ensure short‑term cash flows align with P&L; forecasts and business expectations. Involved with regional credit control team to establish good cash collection process to meet targeted DSO KPI.
Legal Entity Oversight
Maintain full ownership of the country’s legal entities.
Governance & Compliance
Ensure internal controls are in place and compliant with Group Policies and Procedures. Manage local audits and ensure all tax deadlines are met.
Process Improvement & Projects
Lead and participate in process improvement initiatives across the region. Support Group projects such as audit coordination and other finance‑related initiatives. Undertake ad hoc project work as part of the regional Finance Director’s improvement agenda.
Skills, Knowledge, and Experience
- ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CPA or CFA and be minimum 5 years post-qualified.
- At least 3 years’ experience in recruitment/similar role/industry.
- Working knowledge of IFRS and ability to handle decision-making regarding audit and tax queries.
- Ability to work autonomously and show initiative and proactiveness to ensure all legal entities are always fully compliant.
- Experience with regional laws and regulations pertaining to financial matters.
- Experience in co‑ordinating remote teams and managing large teams.
- Experience in Group reporting and working to tight deadlines.
- Ability to work in a time‑sensitive, pressured environment with non‑flexible Group deadlines.
- Ability to be versatile and able to multitask with day‑to‑day workflow.
- Must be located in Brisbane, Australia and meet hybrid work requirements as defined by the President for ASPAC.
- Previous experience working with either one or more accounting systems, ideally Microsoft Dynamics 365.
- Knowledge of Australia complex payroll scenarios across multiple Australian jurisdiction, with a strong grasp of payroll‑related compliance and operational requirements.
- Knowledge of OneStream finance system preferred but not pivotal.
- Effective communicator who is articulate, professional and confident at all times, both with finance and non‑finance colleagues.
- Confident in challenging existing processes and holding colleagues to standards set out by Senior Management.
